Taking the mickey out of Da Vinci.
Thirty-or-so exciting paintings and prints from the School of the Chicago Art Institute and Latin School in Chicago, Illinois were on display including a set of paintings where recognizable old masters were given the Disney treatment.
The project, to raise awareness to the great need for medical supplies and equipment for children's hospitals in Eastern Europe and China, is a cultural exchange between these countries and the United States.
After this exhibit and the one two weeks previously at the Textile Academy in Moscow, the exhibition will travel to Hong Kong's Cultural Center and finally back to Chicago where works of student art from Moscow and St Petersburg will go on display.
Also shown were works by American textile artist Laurence Korwin -- a world authority on textile art. Several of his colorful but simple wall hangings demonstrated effective use of space in both the home and office. His works hang in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London and Musee des Arts Decoratifs, Paris.
He is author of the book "Textiles As Art" and has conducted workshops and slide-talks on the use of textiles in interior design throughout the world, including the London Arts Club, and the Smithsonian Institute.
Bridges Across the Atlantic is an American humanitarian aid organization staffed entirely by volunteers who collect, hand carry, deliver and distribute donations of medicine, medical supplies and equipment to children's hospitals in Eastern Europe, Russia and China. It also helps with doctor and nurse exchanges and the transport of seriously ill children to the United States for special surgical operations. (SPP)
