- Retrospective of the father of Russian futurism
An exhibition of paintings by David Burliuk (1882-1967) -- the
"father of Russian futurism" -- is on display at the Russian Museum's Benois
Wing.

What's interesting about recent St Petersburg art is the renewed
influence of Ancient Greece and the Renaissance, resulting in a modern art
which transcends the boundaries of time. This idea springs to mind at the Marble Palace's latest exhibition, "The Golden Ass."

Lenin lives! Or at least his ghost must, roaming around the halls
of the former Smolny Institute which once groomed young debutantes for high
society life. It later gained fame as the building where the Soviet government first held power after the revolution.

St Petersburg is now separated from Estonia by a border and
customs and visa complications. But some young Petersburgers will take an
evening train to Tallinn to see Simple Minds and other acts taking part in the
1995 Rock Summer festival this weekend.
