Get down and boogie with Kamikaze. The occasional customer who trods the beaten path to the Ten Club this week will find the doors closed, as the club's management is taking some time to prepare for a major event scheduled for the weekend.
It is the second annual Ten City Fest, which will feature ten of the best groups that play regularly in this highly regarded live rock music club. Dedicated to and coinciding with St Petersburg's City Day, the festival will start on Friday, May 26.
According to the club's founder and manager Rodion Chikunov, every customer will receive soft drinks free or at very low prices. Provided by the Coca-Cola company, the soft drinks will be the festival's only special offer.
But the festival hardly needs more enticements, because the line-up of bands taking part in the festival is quite an interesting event in itself, says Chikunov, who plays with the pop funk band Ulitsy.
Ulitsy will perform on the first day of the festival, with local dance favorites Prepinaki, Kamikaze, Tokyo, and S.P.O.R.T. By midnight live performances will give way to an all-night techno party with the city's best-known DJs spinning the discs.
More rock-oriented bands such as Tequillajazzz, Kolybel, Sky Hog, Sunny Child and SS 20 will play on Saturday.
"Ten Club is one of the few venues where we can perform with ease; they have a nice audience and decent sound," said Sergei Gudkov of the band S.P.O.R.T.,
The five-piece band, featuring two female vocalists, will perform their current set of songs, which they hope to record on their planned debut album.
