"The Present and the Future of Economic Education in Russia"

The social and economic transformation of Russia has
raised major issues of content, structure and practical
methods of economic education. Renewal of economic education
is required at all levels of education (precollege, general
undergraduate and professional economics education). New
educational institutions are emerging in Russia, issues of
content of education are debated, as well as the structure
of professional economics training. There is a necessity to
evaluate emerging trends and possible solutions to current
acute problems of economic education in Russia.
The International Conference organized by Moscow
Lomonosov State University, Departments of Economics is
planned to address these issues and discuss five major
topics:
- Reflections of current trends in world economic
education on Russia;
- High school economic education in Russia: problems
and trends;
- The structure and content of an Introductory Economics
Theory course;
- Methods of teaching economic theory at an
undergraduate level;
- Curricula for professional economic education in
Russia.
The leading faculty and educators from newly created
and restructered economic educational institutions (public
and private), as well as western faculty and experts are
expected to participate in the Conference. Faculty from
East Europe that are facing similar problems will be most
welcomed.
Preliminary Program:
April 25, 1994 - arrival in Moscow. Travel to conference
location.
April 26, 1994 - Plenary meeting.

Report 2: Modern trends in Western Economic Education:
Reflections on Russia;
April 26-27, 1994
Section 1: High School Economic Education: Development
of economic culture and economic way of thinking;
Section 2: Problems of Teaching Introductory Economics
at an undergraduate level;
Section 3: Standard Requirements for Professional
Economic Training and Curricular Design.
April 28, 1994 - Plenary meeting.
The participants that would like to present a paper
within the scope of the topics mentioned above are
requested to submit an abstract of 1/2 page before February
1, 1994. Send also advance information of your name,
position, address, fax and telephone numbers, proposed
title of your paper as soon as possible. Those who are
wishing to participate but to present no paper, please,
inform us as well and send us also information of your
name, position, address, fax and telephone numbers.
The conference will take place in a conference centre
located around 30 km away from Moscow. The Conference will
cover the costs of transportation from Moscow to the
conference centre and back and substantial part of
participants costs at the conference location, but all the
other travelling costs or costs of staying in Moscow itself
before or after the conference will have to be covered by
the participants themselves. The managing committe will be
able to assist in booking the hotels but it will need
advance information on the schedule of each participant.
