- The greatest monuments
and museums in the downtown (44KB, 750x566 pixels).
The buitiful collection of
jewelry made by Carl Faberge who was
the official jeweler for Russian emperors. The exhibition is devoted
to the 150th Anniversary of Carl Faberge (May 30, 1846 - Sept. 24, 1920)
and provided by RUSnet specialists.

Hermitage Museum (this site provides only Russian text;

- "Blue Heart Tours" server (Washington, DC) provides several
photos about
Hermitage, the museum of fine arts. The building of
Winter Palace was constructed
in XVIII century. This is one of the greatest designs of
the Italian architect Count Bartolomeo Rastrelli (1700-1771).
The museum collection was counted as one of the best
in the world until Stalin ordered to sell many paintings abroad.
Fortunately, two paintings by Leonardo da Vinci remained in
Hermitage:
Madonna and Child, and the
Benois Madonna (1480).

palace in Tsarskoe Selo (near St.Petersburg) which was occupied

longer available in electronic form. In 1995-1996, it was inviting
visitors to look into the Dostoevsky world in the St.Petersburg's downtown.
