Wonderfull idea. Well, do you have access to a scanner with
resolution 300dpi or more ? If yes, than take your best photos,
scan them and then transform the resulted image either to GIF or to JPEG
image formats. You can use for this job any type of
available software. If you work with SUN machines, I can
advise XV program. If you work with Mac or with IBM-compatible
computer then you can use Adobe Photoshop. At this moment, you may wish
to read PHOTOSHOP professional Tips&Tricks, an extensive manual
written by Art. Lebedev. All image processing tools
allow manipulations with digitized pictures: vary size, sharp
and bright images, increase or decrease intensity of colors, i.e.,
flexibly process and enhance your images... When you get several GIF or JPG
files with pictures of good (from your point of view) quality, then
either make your own WWW page with links to them, or let me know
and we will discuss how to copy them. The easiest way for me
is if you will put them in some public directory on your machine
accessible for FTP. Then I will make FTP connection to that directory
and copy your images to a local directory. Then I can make the WWW
page for your pictures, if you will send me brief notes with explantaions
what is on each picture, or just message with captions to each picture.

If you do NOT have access to a scanner, or you cannot use software for
converting to GIF or JPG
formats from scanned images, then there is
a second opportunity. You can ask any photoshop in your city
(which do photo finishing for customers) to produce a Compact Disc
for you from your favorite negatives. After that, you can copy
pictures from the CD to your public FTP-accessible directory on your
computer. As I wrote before, I can copy files with pictures from that directory
to a local directory and construct the WWW page for your personal
exhibition.

If you have any further questions/suggestions, please do not hesitate
to ask me. I will appreciate your help in constructing Orel-related
Web exhibition. As you know, cities from Central Russia only in rare cases have
easy access to WWW; info about them is hardly available.
Your exhibition will be the first one ! Of course, you will keep
all copyrights on your photos and the Web page will contain only
your e-mail address for contacts (if you like this idea).
All the best,

Mikhail Soutchanski
