Pictures from Simbirsk.
Simbirsk (48 degrees of eastern longitude, 54 degrees of northern
latitude) is located on the right (high) bank of Volga river
approximately 600kms to the east from
Moscow. The city was founded in 1648 as a forest constructed
to protect borders of Russian state. At the end of XVIII century,
the original forest was destroyed because it is lost its strategic
purpose. The founder of Russian communist party Lenin
(original family name Ulyanov) was born in Simbirsk in 1870. Because of this, during the Soviet era the city was
renamed to Ulyanovsk. The region itself is still called
Ulyanovskaya oblast.
