PROGRAM: The Social Science Research Council, in collaboration with the American Council of Learned Societies, conducts a broad range of programs relating to scholarship on diverse areas of the world. These programs emphasize two mandates: First, the strengthening of research on and training in distinctive areas, cultures, languages, and historical experience; and second, the promotion of comparative and transnational analysis based on area expertise. The joint international program work of the Councils is primarily conducted through eleven joint area committees: African Studies, Chinese Studies, Eastern Europe, Japanese Studies, Korean Studies, Latin American Studies, the Near and Middle East, South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Soviet Union and Its Successor States, and Western Europe.
QUALIFICATIONS: Full-time students, regardless of citizenship, who are enrolled in full-time doctoral programs in the United States are eligible for most programs. U.S. citizens and permanent residents of the United States enrolled in full-time doctoral programs abroad are also eligible unless otherwise noted.
