PROGRAM: The objective of this program is to improve the quality of dissertation research on Eastern Europe by supporting students who have begun to formulate research ideas for a dissertation on Eastern Europe but who lack the necessary field experience. The grants are to be used to travel to Eastern Europe to examine the resources available for research on possible topics. The grants are to support a summer trip to Eastern Europe of two months or more, and are intended to help students define and shape their dissertation programs and possibly to begin their research.
QUALIFICATIONS: U.S. citizens and permanent residents enrolled in full- time graduate training programs. Applicants must have completed one year of full-time graduate study and have been accepted into a Ph.D. program before applying to the grant.
