PROGRAM: To provide assistance to centers that serve as resources for improving the Nation's capacity for teaching and learning foreign languages. The Secretary gives preference to applications that meet the following competitive priority: training of teachers in the administration and interpretation of foreign language performance tests, the use of effective teaching strategies, and the use of new technologies. Within the competitive priority, the Secretary is interested in applications that meet the following invitational priority--training of elementary and secondary teachers in the administration and interpretation of foreign language performance tests, the use of effective teaching strategies, and the use of new technologies in Chinese, German, Japanese, and Russian.
QUALIFICATIONS: Institutions of higher education and combinations of IHEs.
MONETARY SUPPORT: In FY 1993, funds will be available to support four awards rangint from $200,000 to $400,000 with an average size of $300,000 for project periods of 36 months.
