PROGRAM: The National Endowment for the Humanities is inviting applications to improve the teaching of foreign languages in the nation's schools, colleges and universities, especially in such less commonly taught languages as Russian, Japanese, Chinese, and Arabic. Summer institutes for teachers on incorporating authentic materials from the target culture into language instruction curriculum, college and university curriculum development and related faculty study and special projects.
QUALIFICATIONS: Public and private schools and districts, two- and four- year colleges and universitites, academic associations and such cultural institutions as libraries and museums.
MONETARY SUPPORT: About $2 million for 14 new one- to three-year projects.
