PROGRAM: Funds to improve foreign language instruction at schools and colleges. This program supports summer institutes for teachers, efforts to redesign undergraduate foreign language programs, and incorporation of foreign language study into other disciplines. The program will focus on helping teachers improve course work and give preference to languages not commonly studied, such as Russian, Japanese, Chinese and Arabic. Projects should emphasize using literature and other materials from the culture studied. Grants will be for up to three years' duration.
