                                    First Announcement and Call for papers
                               Information letter No. F-01; Feb., 04, 1994


You are welcome to attend The 3-rd St.-Petersburg International Conference
   "Regional Informatics  - 94"  (RI'94)  by  The  Conference  organizers:
   Office of  the Mayor of St.-Petersburg, Administration of the Leningrad
   Region, UNESCO  Intergovernmental Informatics Programme (PII-IIP), St.-
   Petersburg Scientific  Centre of  the Russian Academy of Sciences, St.-
   Petersburg  Informatics   and  Control   Society  (SPICS)  and  the  RI
   Conference  Board   -  permanent  association  of  leading  scientists,
   engineers and specialists of state institutions and authorities, social
   organizations, scientific  and industrial companies of the city of St.-
   Petersburg, other regions of Russia and foreign countries.

The RI'94  Conference is  to be  held May, 10 - 13, 1994 in St.-Petersburg
   under the title of UNESCO.

The Conference  schedule  includes  visiting  the  "Regional  Informatics"
   International Exhibition  which will  take place  at the  International
   Exhibition Centre of St. Petersburg during the same period.


The Conference  Programme will  include discussions on theory and practice
   of regional  informatization; informatics and telecommunications issues
   discussions within the framework of conference collaboration of science
   and technology  society and  administrative boards; regional programmes
   development problems  and implementation  of  regional  informatization
   policy.

                         RI'94 Conference Themes

       1. Regional Informatization Policy
       2. Theoretical Informatization problems
       3. Telecommunication networks and services
       4. Informatization Industry
       5. Applied Information Technologies (in education, health
       protection,
          ecology, conversion, ocean exploration, publishing technologies,
          geoinformation technologies etc.)
       6. Information security
       7. Mass media


The final  list of  theoretical topics  and Conference  Programme with the
   list of  Conference sessions  and presentations will be produced by the
   Conference Programme  Committee after  receiving of  applications  from
   Conference participants and guests.


                    Among Conference participants are:

- leading Russian and foreign scientists; representatives of International
   organizations   (UNESCO,    International   telecommunications   Union,
   Informatics Societies from Russian regions and CIS);

- authorities  from UNESCO  Intergovernmental Informatics  Programme (PII-
   IIP)   Board;    Russian   President    Administration   Committee   on
   Informatization Policy;  Russian Telecommunications  Ministry and other
   administrative boards of Russian state Administration;

- Chief  executive and representative authorities from Russian regions and
   cities;

-   representatives    of   leading   foreign   companies   dealing   with
   informatization and telecommunication tools;

- representatives  of scientific,  industrial and commercial organizations
   operating in the area of informatization;

- Conference sponsors and their guests.


Conference sponsors  and their  guests are  welcome with  free admittance,
   they will  be provided  for an  opportunity to choose date and time for
   presenting their  papers and  commercials within  the timeframe  of the
   Conference, display areas, places within the Conference site for "Round
   Table" discussions,  Business  Club  meetings,  information  and  other
   services  will   be  also   provided  in   accordance  with   sponsor's
   contribution.

                   The RI'94 participation requirements


All Conference participants are encouraged to send to the RI'94 Organizing
   Committee:

   1. The filled out attached application form;
   2. 3 copies of extended abstract in Russian or in English no more than
   500 words (please, sign the 3-rd copy);
   3. To facilitate interaction between the authors and the Programme
   Committee the following information could be sent by electronic mail to
   SPIIRAN@IIAS.SPB.SU (please, note "RI-94" in the "Subject" field):
   Authors names; affiliation; postal address; E-mail address; COMPLETE
   TITLE OF PRESENTATION and the TEXT OF THE PRESENTATION EXTENDED
   ABSTRACT.
   4. The bank notification for registration fee charged in favour of the
   RI'94 Conference.


The deadline for the application forms acceptance is March, 20, 1994.
