The Eurasia Foundation is a private grantmaking organization established with financing from the United States Agency for International Development to support economic reform and democratic institution building in the New Independent States (NIS) of the former Soviet Union. The Eurasia Foundation's grantmaking focus includes three areas: Economic Reform, Governmental Reform and the Non- Governmental Sector, and Media & Communications. The Foundation's Washington, D.C. headquarters began grant making operations in May 1993. It is supported by field offices in Kiev, Moscow, Tashkent, Saratov and Vladivostok. The Kiev Regional Office covers Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova and began field-based grantmaking operations in January 1994.
