The U.S. Department of Commerce has granted Trade Fair Certification to International Trade & Exhibitions J/V Ltd. (ITE), for a U.S. pavilion at the TASHKENT INTERNATIONAL HEALTHCARE EXHIBITION '96 (TIHE '96). The exposition will take place on April 1-4, 1996 at the Uzexpocentr International Exposition Complex, Tashkent, Uzbekistan.. The event is designed to introduce medical supplies and pharmaceuticals to an expected 15,000 visitors..
The Department's decision to certify TIHE '96 is based on ITE's past success in providing opportunities for U.S. exhibitors to explore the healthcare industry and to establish contacts in Uzbekistan. Also, market research indicates that this event provides a good venue in which to showcase U.S. products and services.
Commercial staff from the U.S. Embassy will be available at the exhibition to assist U.S. firms with their export needs. They will assist in making business and trade contacts, and provide a comprehensive medical market briefing.
According to estimates by the Uzbekistan State Committee on Statistics and Forecasting, Uzbekistan imported USD 5.4 million of medical equipment and supplies in 1993. Pharmaceutical and medical foreign firms and joint ventures increased from 12 in September 1994 to 35 in April 1995. The government continues to be the primary source of funding for healthcare. In 1994, USD 79.5 million or 11.1 percent of the budget of the Government of Uzbekistan was allocated to healthcare needs. Uzbekistan is in the heart of Central Asia which makes the Tashkent show a key for companies looking to expand throughout the region.
