BEPC Operates with Four RF Cavities

BEPC's storage ring resumed its operation on February 5 after a short break during the Spring Festival. New progress had been obtained in its first 10-day operation for the machine study. First, with four RF cavities (among which two were used in CERN) working together for the first time in the strorage ring, collisions have been successfully achieved at an energy of 2.015 GeV and a large beam current, the total maximum cavity voltage reaches 1.4 MV, and the total maximum beam current 76 mA. The luminosity is significantly higher than before.

Also had been done other machine studies such as relation between low-beta model and luminosity, cavity voltage and luminosity and the measurement of bunch length.

From February 15, while the storage ring working stably, BEPC started its operation at phi' energy(1.8413GeV) and BES started its event collection.
