We hope that teachers and students will find this material useful in learning to read, write, and speak English. The material is somewhat dated, having first been published over twenty years ago, but we feel that there is much useful information here.
*The English language forms in this material are based on British English, not on American English. We suggest that teachers use differences in the two versions of English to open up discussion and independent research by the student(s). For example; the construction "Have you a pen?" is not used in American English, and, while it is technically correct in Britain, it is far more common to use the construction "Do you have a pen?". Be aware of these differences.
The material contained here was reproduced for electronic re-distribution by creating images of each page that could be transmitted over the Internet via the World Wide Web (www). This material is intended to be viewed using a World Wide Web browser, such as Netscape or Microsoft Internet Explorer, which are available free of charge. This material is mounted on a computer connected to the Internet and can be viewed in this way. We have also made this material available as a package that can be saved to your local computer and used without being connected to the Internet.
You can download this material to your computer in either the Windows .zip format or the Macintosh .sit format by following this procedure:

and select Save from the pop-up menu.
We decided to use images of each page because this method eliminates the need for complex Latin/Cyrillic computer system configuration. However, the images presented are less than ideal due to the need to keep the file size small (the amount of computer memory required). We are interested in hearing your opinion regarding the usefulness of this method of presentation. Feel free to drop us a note or join us in developing other educational materials at:
