Hello, Two of my daughters are members of `Brownies` (this is the junior

asked to find out about Brownies in Russia. We would be most grateful if
anyone could tell us if there are any Brownie packs or Girl Guides in

Subject: operaphile/artish penpals sought

Salvete Amici,

I am marshalling my resources to be able to visit Russia in the summer of
2000, and before I go I would very much like to make the acquaintance of
"locals" who share my interests.

The primary goal of my trip is a pilgrimage to the grave of the god-like
Feodor Chaliapin in Moscow. St. Petersburg is also (of course) on my
itinerary. Aside from those two destinations, I await suggestions as to
where else I should visit.

My main interests are: literature (I'm currently seeking discussion
partners for The Master and Margherita specifically, though my general
interest is much wider--just ask!), music (particularly classical and
American popular song up to the 1960's), most manifestations of the visual
arts, any powerful manifestation of the performing arts, and Ancient
Rome(late republic, early Empire).

My overriding passion is opera--any aspect.

I welcome correspondence from any and all who are likewise inclined.

Please respond to mnicholson@erols.com

Cheers,

Marsha

mood."

Dear sirs, here's some information on us. Could you possibly pass it to
those who might be interested in it? Thanks in advance, A.Bakin, PR
manager Theater of Contemporary Dance Chelyabinsk Art-adviser Vladimir Pona
Choreographers Vladimir and Olga Pona The activities of Chelyabinsk Theater
of Contemporary Dance include: directing and production of performances and
concerts, educational activities, participation in organization of tours of
similar theater companies, organization of festivals and competitions.
Theater has a large repertoire, which has been constantly renewed. Theater
specializes mostly in miniature production - there are about 25 of them on
the repertoire, 5 one-act performances include 2 for children. Theater
does not have its own building. When choosing style for performances, the
troupe follow rather their own perception of the world then previously
accepted and acknowledged schemes.

Chelyabinsk Theater of Contemporary Dance is a prize-winner of many
internal competitions, it took part in international competition in Vitebsk
(Belarus) and got a prize. Theater sustains contacts with choreographers
and artists, including those from European countries. These art and
business connections provide useful information on development of modern
dance. Regular troupe of Chelyabinsk Theater of Contemporary Dance
includes 11 dancers, a tour group does not exceed 14 dancers. All actors
have professional education, take everyday lessons in classical and modern
dance. Theater choreographers Vladimir and Olga Pona have professional
education, studied modern dance by themselves (took part in various seminar
programs, including those organized by European and American teachers).

Theater is interested in: _ organization of Modern Dance Theater
performances in any country; _ participation in festivals, competitions and
other non-commercial activities. Theater is ready to offer its troupe and
logistics to a talented choreographer with letters of recommendation for
production of performance of concert program. Theater can also further
realization of any art projects in the Urals (Russia).

Subject: The NGO Information and Resource Center

Dear Colleagues,

The NGO Information and Resource Center On-line (NGO-IRC) in Ukraine has
supported the growth and development of Ukrainian's NGO sector since 1997
through, advisory services, computer and business services, information,
Public awareness activities, seminars, workshops and roundtables with
different constituencies and secotrs of Ukrainian society.

As many of you are aware, NGOs in the countries of the CIS are beginning to
take advantage of the wealth of exchange programmes, internships, on-line
training and published materials that exist for the purposes of
strengthening the capacity of their organizations.

In order to make this information more accessible to NGOs, The
Euro-Atlantic Information Foundation (EAIF) is currently undertaking a
project to develop a directory of available NGO capacity-building resources
and publications for the Central and Eastern Europe and the countries of
the CIS. Full participation of relevant organizations who are working in
this field is essential for the sucessful completion of this project. We
therefore kindly request your assistance by completing the following
questionnaire in full on capacity-building resources so that the relevant
activities of your organization may be included in the directory.
Additionally, if you are able to forward any copies of your resources,
publication catalogues, or descriptions of any training and/or funding
programmes to me, it would be greatly appreciated.

We offer to take part in the project on creation The Euro-Atlantic
Information Network. The EAINFONET-Ukraine (on-line) was established by the
The Euro-Atlantic Information Foundation in cooperation with the government
and NGO's research institutions. It is a non-governmental
interdisciplinary research institution (on-line) which provides analytical
and informational support to the highest bodies of executive and
legislative power in East Europe,Ukraine and Russia,CIS on a wide range of
political, economic, legal, defence and social issues related Ecology and
Human Rights.

But EAIF needs more information on these problems. Can you help us? If it
is not too much trouble please contact us by post or e-mail. We also need
the information about e-conferences dealing with such problems. We will
of course be happy to share the completed directory with those
organizations who show an interest.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Sincerely yours,
Oleg Boitchun
