I just wanted to say that I support your page. I traveled to a city called
Barnaul, Russia during the month of April in 1996. I enjoyed the trip and
the people of Russia were very nice to the whole group. I hope sometime in
the near future that I will be able to return to Russia and stay for more
than a month.

I am a Purdue student, who spent last summer in Ryazan and Novgorod,
Russia. I would love to correspond with anyone interested in Russia. I am
a pre-veterinary medicine student. I am also supposed to be making a web
page about my trip to Russia for our Veterinary School. I want to have
audio on it, preferably a song. Ideally "Oy da ne vecher." If you know of
somewhere on the web that I can get this from, please contact me!

Hello

Actually, I am interested in finding either a good sample of ENGLISH text
but in Cyrillic characters, or some method of converting English text into
Cyrillic characters. The idea is for me to be able to read familiar
English language, but be forced to learn the Cyrillic characters by seeing
Cyrillic used in place of English characters.

Thanks

Hundreds of thousands celebrate Moscow's birthday

Hundreds of thousands of people poured onto the streets of Moscow for
a celebration filled with songs, dance and spectacle to celebrate the
Russian capital's 850th anniversary. Moscow officials said Sunday 3
million people attended concerts, parades and other festivities.
Earlier estimates had put the number at several hundred thousand. One
event was solemn. Alexiy II, Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church,
blessed the walls of a cathedral which Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov has
rebuilt more than 60 years after Soviet dictator Josef Stalin ordered
it to be destroyed. For full story see

Hello, my name is Daylene Lauman and I am both a Social Studies teacher
and technology coordinator at a school in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I
teach grade 9 Social Studies, and it is part of our curriculum to teach
about Russia (historical aspects), as well as the economy of the United
States. I wondered if there was any way that I might be able to get my
students involved in meeting other studies in either or both of these
countries via email projects. Please share your thoughts with me
regarding this possibility. Thanks so much for your consideration!

Sincerely,

Daylene Lauman

international seminar "Social Activism in Practical Urban
Environmental Projects". The seminar is to be held on October 6-12 in
Novorossiysk, the largest Russian industrial city and port on the
Black sea.

The seminar has the aim of bringing together representatives of
different sectors of society (NGO, science, municipal administration,
universities, charitable foundations) from different countries and of
sharing their experience in implementating urban environmental
projects.

The seminar will concentrate on practical urban environmental
projects - creation, protection and upkeep of city parks, botanical
gardens, arboretums, etc. Both practical and institutional aspects of
this problem will be discussed. A project "Arboretum in Novorossiysk"
which is being implemented by a local initiative group with the
support of the city administration and Leadership for Environment and
Development foundation will be analyzed as a case study.

The seminar program will give the participants an opportunity to
communicate with professors and students from the local university and
even to make their own presentations for local activists. Site visits
and an excursion to a famous vineyard of Abrau Durso is on the agenda
as well.

Participants fron CEE with relevant professional experiense can
apply for a free place and even for compensation of all the travel
expanses. Number of free places is limited.
