New Friends and Partners Chat Server

Dear friends,

We are testing some new chat server software and invite you to visit. The
new software appears to have several advantages over our current system,
including support for multiple rooms, support for frames, ability to send
private messages, ability to view occupants of a given room, etc.

You can visit from the F&P Community Chat page (from Community Corner) or
directly at:

  http://www.friends-partners.org/cgi-bin/friends/newchat/chat.cgi

Just log in giving a username and your email address; fill in other
parameters appropriately and choose one of the three initial rooms to
visit.

What a wonderful way to spread brotherhood between Americans and Russians.
I am of Russian descent and I was born in Chicago, Illinois, USA, but I
hope to visit the land of my family. You see, sadly my family left St.
Petersburg in 1884 because of religious persecution. Here is a story
telling why a Jewish family was allowed to live in St. Petersburg: Joseph
Korerbov was working in the forest cutting trees when he saw a run-a-way
horse and buggy. He chased it and caught up to it and finally brought it
to a halt. And who was inside de the buggy? None other that the Czar's
daughter. As a reward the Czar invited Joseph to live near by his palace
in St. Petersburg. I have a lovely Russian Samovar from my great-great
grandparents:

Sender: Marianne Ruane (mruane@glasnet.ru)
Subject: publishing a compilation of articles in English

One of the students I work with has published a series of articles in
English in the Russian magazine/newsletter "Let's Speak English." There
are 14 articles in all, though only 7 have been published so far. They
deal with different topics about his experience living in a host family and
studying in a high school in the U.S. - about being selected for the
program, about getting to the U.S. and predeparture orientation, about
school, going to church, living in a host family... etc. They are
actually very well written. He came to see me with his aunt to talk about
getting them all published in a book. Having now read them, I don't think
they would be particularly interesting to an American audience (basic
impressions of life in the U.S. and not even any comparisons with Russia),
though they might be interesting to someone who is specifically interested
in the impressions of a high school student from Russia in the U.S. They
would and I guess are interesting to a Russian audience that is learning
English and interested in American culture.

The student and his aunt stressed that the most important thing was getting
the articles out there for people to read. (They may also be interested in
making money; I don't know.) If anyone reading this message would be
interested in this project, even just potentially, I can put you in contact
with them. They came to me for advice on getting it published, and
frankly, I don't have any to offer. If anyone has ideas/contacts, I would
love to hear from you.

Dear colleagues,

a PC World-Belarus magazine (Belarusian variant of American edition)
is working now on a special issue, devoted to Internet. Except
translated materials from the PC World, the issue includes local
articles
devoted to the problems of Internet in Belarus and also a review of
Belarusian Internet resources.
In connection with this we will be very grateful if you could find some
time to answer following questions:

When have you created your home page or when do you plan to
open it?

What is an approximate or exact visits amount of your home page
from the beginning till the present moment?

In your opinion which Belarusian home pages are most important or
most popular and well designed?

Unfortunately we found out that some old links and servers from
your lists are not available now. Therefore your information would be
especially useful and important for the article.

Please take into consideration that we plan to finish work on this
article on 7th of September.
If you would like to answer on our questions or to send any other
actual information, discussing letter, article, etc., please do it ASAP.

We will prepare an electronic version of this review and will be sure to
