I am a student involved with a United Nations simulation in our
Contemporary World Problems class. I am on the Russian delegation and I
need to find information on Russia. I need to find stuff that would tell
me the Russian position on certain issues. I have searched the Internet
and so far I have been unable to find good information on some of the
stuff.
I was wondering if you could help me find some information on
Russia. I suppose this is not urgent; I can probably find most of the
information.

Subject: russian office software
While in Moscow last year, I was given a Russian translator software called:
Russian Office. This software includes "fine reader" and "socrat 2.0 (for 16
bit and 23 bit)." I installed this on Win95, with the fine reader in English;
but with fine reader-readme file and socrat I do not get cyrillic, only
"junk" lettering. I realize these disks are copied, yet would anyone be
willing to e-mail instructions to make this work on Win95 plus a short how-to
on using this program? Thanking you in advance!

Subject: Management Techniques in Russia
I recall sometime last year there was a posting on this site from
someone who had experience working in Russia helping to teach and
implement modern management techniques at Russian enterprises and
companies. If I'm not mistaken, I believe the person was possibly
associated with a university/college in California.
Does anyone recall this individual or know of anyone else who has had
experience in management training, such as Total Quality Management,
etc., in Russia? I would be grateful for any leads, since we will be
attempting to do this in Russia and it would be very helpful to receive
feedback from anyone with direct experience with this.
Thanks,
Charlie Raether

Subject: Elderly Assistance
Hello Friends,
Please allow me to introduce Gray Doves International. We are a small group
of dedicated volunteers all over the U.S. and Canada . Our sole purpose is to
assist elderly women who have lost their male providers ie. sons and
husbands, to conflict in their countries. Over the past two years we have
assisted women with items that we hope make their lives more comfortable in
Guatemala, South Africa, and in many other countries. Donor companies as well
as private citizens assist us in many unique ways. We are currently seeking
more volunteers. E-Mail today for more information. If you should know of a
woman in need, let us know about her and we will do our best to help. Gray
Doves are all ages, all sizes and all colors. They come from all over and
gather together in small flocks to help grandmothers and mothers of all .
These are the women who have suffered many hardships...war, famine, loss of
loved ones. Once proud, they now beg. YOU can help....you really can ! If you
know of anyone traveling to war ravaged areas, or working there as priests,
missionaries, nurses, aid workers, etc. Let them know about Gray Doves. This
is certainly one of the largest areas of human rights abuse there is and WE
can all do something about it! E-Mail today and find out how YOU can help !

Russian Legal Listserver: FPLEGAL
I have recently learned of an internet list known as "Russian
Legal Listserver." Since I joined the list only this week, I have
not seen any message traffic yet, so I cannot provide any
information on the usefulness of the list at this time. However,
I have provided below the list description provided by the list
manager.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to FPLEGAL
"Russian Legal Listserver"
-----------------------------------------------------------------
It is a new mailing list designed to help legal practitioners and
scholars, as well as businessmen and other interested people
share information concerning the new Russian (plus NIS and U.S.-
Russian) Laws and Regulations.
This mailing list lives under the auspices of the jointly devel-
oped (by citizens from US and Russia) information service called
"Friends and Partners" and its specialized part "Russian Legal
Server".
The purpose of this list? Basically, we feel that it will provide
the best mechanism for communicating with each other about the
development an practices of law to:
(1) promote development of the Rule Of Law in Russia;
(2) help educate citizens of the United States and Russia (and
the other states of the former Soviet Union) about our legal
systems;
(3) provide a common base of information about issues related to
the topic; and
(4) provide a 'meeting place' where people can find and communi-
cate with each other about mutual interests.
To promote participation of Russian lawyers that may be vital for
the whole thing, we encourage people to write in either English
or Russian (transliterated or KOI8). Language is still a major
problem for many Russians. Nevertheless, given the experience of
other mailing lists, it is expected that for the first time the
principal correspondence will be in English and later we may come
up with automated translation service.
We hope is that this service will promote mutual understanding
and facilitate international business. It emerges upon the work
already being accomplished by our governments and by the various
groups, centers, and institutes who have been working for so many
years towards this same goal of cooperation and friendship. It
also hopes to build upon and contribute to the already excellent
listservers in existence on the Internet dealing with U.S.-Rus-
sian-East European issues.
To subscribe to the list:
1. Address e-mail to: listproc@solar.rtd.utk.edu
2. Leave SUBJECT blank
3. In MESSAGE: subscribe fplegal Yourfirstname Yourlastname
4. Then SEND the message

Russian/NIS Students Available for Internships
I have today received information about a group of talented high
school students who will soon be available to fill internship
positions in businesses and non-governmental organizations in
Russia and the NIS. Presented below is the letter from the
ACTR/ACCELS office in Moscow, and a form which can be returned to
that office if your organization would like to list an internship
opportunity.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
We would like to offer your company/organization the opportunity
to inform a pool of qualified, energetic young applicants about
summer internships with your organization.
We represent the Freedom Support Act Secondary School Program
(FSASSP), a U.S. government-sponsored exchange program. Partic-
ipants in this program study in U.S. high schools and live with
American host families for one year. Our Alumni Office works
with students returning from this program - over 4000 total from
throughout the Russia/NIS region.
The returning students ("alumni") are fluent in English, highly
motivated, and eager to gain professional experience. An intern-
ship at your firm/organization could provide them with much
needed skills and credentials, while bringing fresh energy and a
young perspective to your office during a time when you may need
extra help due to staff vacations.
If your organization is interested in hosting FSASSP alumni as
interns, and is able to provide substantive work experience for
them, please fill out the form attached to this message, and
return it to our office in Moscow.
We are currently compiling a list of companies/organizations with
available intern positions. The list will be printed in the next
issue of "The Bradley Herald" - a newsletter edited by our office
for FSASSP alumni.
Interested alumni will send their resumes and cover letters to
you directly. While our office is concentrating on finding in-
ternships in Moscow, we have alumni in every large city in the
Russia /NIS regions. If you can offer positions in other cities,
please let us know that as well.
We look forward to receiving your replies. Please feel free to
contact me if you have any questions about the program.
FSASSP INTERNSHIP POSITION

Address/Tel/Fax/E-mail:

If you are interested in hosting interns in cities other than
Moscow, please list those cities here. (Please include contact
information for the branch offices at the end of this form).
Include a list of these branch offices and their coordi-
nates at the end of this message.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The internship we can offer is: ___ Paid ___ Unpaid
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Will interns require training of knowledge in a specific field?
If so, please list those fields here. (Leave blank if major field
of study is not important to the internship position.)
