is mostly remembered for his concerto for violin and orchestra in
E-Minor. My father, was also a great musician and composer, but he died

connections in Russia or here, or wish to help (You like good music)
then please reply...I should be most happy to furnish you with
more information on this subject. I am not very eloquent so forgive me.
My grandfather Julius had a great deal to do with the Moscow
Conservatory of music, so perhaps you could find a friend there...I have
in my posession a symphony, a concerto for piano and orchestra, some
chamber music pieces and many piano pieces. let's see what happens.

SEASONS GREETINGS!
As you know, 1996 has been a very turbulent year in Russia and The Mir
House has been riding the waves along with the Russian people.
=46or the last eight months Nathan E. Pettengill, the author of "Khleb" has
been living in Moscow collecting new material for the final chapters of
this new book. It seems each time we speak with him a new developement
has arisen which takes his research around still another corner and down
another dark ally. The manuscript is now in its final stages and is
begining to reveal this mysterious side of Russian culture, which we in
the West are still so far from understanding.
Stay tuned to our web site (www.mirhouse.com) and we will keep you posted
on the "Russian Bread Travelogue." It is truly becoming quite an
adventurous journey and we are anxious to share all of it with you as it
comes together.
Happy Holidays to you and yours from all of us at The Mir House!

Subject: Russian/American Web Site
Dear Friends,
=46irst of all, thank you so much for setting up this site! I am a
"mixed-salad" American as my ancestry is Russian, Austrian, French,
English, and Native American. However, my first husband was born and
raised in Moscow, Russia. His parents lived with us, and so I had the
opportunity to learn the Russian language and a bit of Russian culture.
There are terrible relations between my ex-husband and I, yet I have many
fond memories of my in-laws, who are now deceased (blessed are they).
Secondly, I enjoyed the section of Russian proverbs. Where can I find
these same proverbs in Russian (cyrillic text)? For that matter, when I
find something that I enjoy in English, where can I find its Russian
equivalent?
Thanks!

Subject: Ukraine FAQ Plus Presents: Ukraine in 1996 - An Analysis
Greetings,
"Ukraine marked its fifth year of independence in 1996. In many
respects the year can be perceived as one of consolidation of the
Ukrainian state within the international community. Compared to its former
Soviet neighbors, Ukraine can be termed an oasis of stability amid a bleak
desert of conflict and change. At the same time in specific
spheres--particularly the coal and nuclear energy industries--there
remains cause for concern. In addition, the Russian Duma's claim to the
city of Sevastopol is an indicator that relations with the giant neighbor
state remain uncertain, particularly in view of the likely long
convalescence of President Boris Yeltsin. Let us examine some of these
issues in turn..."
