My mother was born in greece, but her father(my grandfather) was
Russian.
Unfortunately my Grandfather died a while ago and i have lost any

If you know of anyway of finding names and addresses could you please
send me any information on sites etc.. or even places outside of the
internet that i could write to etc.
I am also trying to contact Alexei Nemov, Russian Olympic Gymnast.
If you know how to find information on him or his address so i can write
to him or anyone close to him it would be much appreciated.
Please reply.
Thankyou,
Marissa. e-mail: anasazi@iprolink.co.nz

X-POST from H-RUSSIA
Bonjour,
I need help!
I'm working for CBC Montreal (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation)on a

Till now it was impossible for me to find his name. I only know that the
photographer was working for the Novosti Press Agency and the red army.
Could you help me?
My name is Pascal Sanchez.
If you know his name or further information you can send me a E-Mail at:
jeunesse@montreal.src.ca
My fax number is:

Thank you very much for your help!

Subject: Volkogonov's biography on Stalin
Hello friends,
First, I thank all of you who responded to my last inquiries. To
everyone, some of those who did respond expressed that either they got a hold
of Dmitri Volkogonov's biography on Stalin rather easily, or expressed their
suprise that it is out of print. This leads me to believe that it is not out
of print, and that I may have made a mistake in saying so. I was informed
that it is out of print by RIS Publications, but they may have just said that
to push their sales of Volkogonov's biographies on Lenin and Trotsky. I'm
not really sure, and if anyone out there has the answer, could you please let
me know. I'm sure I won't have trouble finding it in any case. Thanks again
everybody!

Subject: Free Computers for Russia and NIS
Please post to the Digest, Friends list, or wherever is appropriate.
Friends:
I recently saw an article in the San Francisco Chronicle regarding several
agencies in California that provide recycled computers free-of-charge to
non-profit groups in the "Third World." That includes Russia and the NIS for
at least one of the agencies, and probably all three.
Be advised that these are certainly not going to be Pentium 100+ PCs;
however, for basic computing, they can be very useful. It would be good to
contact the agencies soon, since others are certainly acting on the
information already.
I personally contacted the major agency:
Marin Computer Resource Center
757 Lincoln Avenue # 19
San Rafael, California 94901
Phone: 415-454-4227/Fax 415-452-8238
This agency has already provided several computers to organizations in the
Moscow area. They do not pay for shipping - those charges will have to be
paid by the group receiving the computers.
Others include:
Computer Recycling Center
1245 Terra Bella Avenue
Mountain View, California
Phone: 415-428-3700
The Detwiler Foundation
in San Diego, California
Phone: 619-231-8700. I don't have an address for this group.
There's no doubt that Russia and the NIS have many talented people and
groups who could use some technological assistance. I will try to keep
Friends and Partners advised of opportunities such as this. I hope others
will look as well.

Subject: amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
I publish a free-of-charge weekly e-mail newsletter that is called the
ALS Digest. It is about the neuromuscular disorder amyotrophic lateral
sclerosis (ALS). The disease is also referred to as motor neurone
disease (MND), Lou Gehrig's disease, or maladie de Charcot.
Currently the ALS Digest has nearly 2000 subscribers from 54 countries,
but none from Russia. So I am seeking contact with motor neurone experts
in Russia and other parts of the former Soviet Union.

Dear Women,
some months ago, we posted an informational text about our current project
"Women as Pathfinders on the Information Superhighway". In short:
a partnership of four women NGOs from Eastern and Central Europe are working
together on a guidebook for women NGOs in the region. The organisations are
- ZhIF, Moscow (Women's Innovation Fund, East-West)
- the Frauenanstiftung, Germany
- the Perm Business Women's Club and
Profem, Prague.
Part of the project, namely the telematics program on the Hippo Summerschool
of the Frauenanstiftung last year involved a whole range of additional
organisations from Eastern and Western Europe.
Please, visit our website at
http://www.wmb.ca/visions/wpis/
for more details.
The guidebook is now in the process of being produced. So place your orders
for the book, in Russian, English or Czech or the CD ROM version with all of
them either by email at the sender's address or via the order form on the
website.
We are also interested in creating links to other online resources on our
website and will carry your information on our online service "Syrena" in
Germany. Please, let us know, when you are interested.
Thanks and best wishes to everyone

The editor highly recommends two recent books on twentieth century Russian
Orthodoxy and Russian Protestantism, respectively: _A Long Walk to Church_
by Nathaniel Davis, and _Russian Resurrection_ by Michael Rowe. The Davis
volume, based on extensive archival research, should now be required
reading on the subject, along with _The Russian Church Under the Soviet
Regime, 1917-1982_, 2 vol. (Crestwood, NY: St. Vladimir's Seminary Press,
1984) by Dimitry Pospielovsky, and _The Russian Orthodox Church, A
Contemporary History_ (Bloomington, IN: Indiana University Press, 1986) by
Jane Ellis. Likewise, _Russian Resurrection_, despite a frustrating lack
of standard documentation, offers such a storehouse of fresh material by a
respected authority that it should now stand as essential reading on
Russian Protestantism, along with Walter Sawatsky's highly regarded _Soviet
Evangelicals Since World War II_ (Scottdale, PA: Herald Press, 1981).
