Among other things, it had lots of dill in it.
Thanks.

Dear Friends,
Vladimir Bubnov would like any news of any of his relatives who may be in
the U.S. Most of his relatives left in 1917 and emigrated either to
France or the U.S. His Mother's maiden name is Khloptsev, and he would
be glad to locate any Khloptsevs as well.

I would like to request for e-mail pals from Egypt, Japan (Ibaraki City-Junko
Matsumoto-if anyone knows her or her e-mail address), Hong Kong, China, British
Virgin Islands, Cuba, on Friends and Partners. Also Russia (Nizni Tagil-Ural Region)
would be a real coup if we could find someone.
Would like to learn about Friends and Partners...and about your
program at the U. of Tenn.
Excellent site...Would be thrilled to contact someone in N. Tagil. I
spent several weeks there staying with an educator and her family. E-
mail correspondence would be quick, direct, and would eliminate lost
mail and time. Also, it would allow my students (sixth graders) to
interact with Russian counterparts. Please advise process for
contacting someone in Tagil via e-mail.
Regards.

Does anyone on the list have an idea of WHEN Mikhail Lomonosov became
prominent in Russian science? Also, need clarification on wether and WHEN

pinpoint the years.
The information is needed for genealogical research. Would appreciate any help.

Subject: Moscow notes available/New trips
This message has two points:
1) I'm posting again, for new list members or those away during the summer, the
offer to send by email an anecdotal account of observations made during a study
trip to Moscow in the month prior to the Russian presidential election. Send
requests directly to me, not to the list. Accounts from 1992-1995 are also
still available.
2) Shortly I need to decide about study trips in 1997 and I'd like input about
The study trips to Moscow look at the political, economic and social changes
in Russia, last about 4 weeks, are open to interested adults from any country
and require no knowledge of Russian. Student participants may usually obtain
university credit. Special topics, including business and labor, can be
emphasized according to the group's composition.
Likely departure dates are 10 May and 21 June. (The latter should make
participation by teachers possible.)
It may be possible to organize a 2-week study trip to Paris and Brussels
that will examine political and economic evolution in the EC. This could be
sandwiched between the two Russia trips such that people could participate in
any combination for which they have time and interest. That is, the options
would be:
a. Russia in May
b. Paris-Brussels
c. Russia in June
d. Russia plus Paris-Brussels
e. Paris-Brussels plus Russia
I am meeting with the branch of the University of Paris that cooperated in
such study trips in the past, and I need to indicate to them an idea of
interest.
Your reactions will help in planning and assure that you receive
details when they are ready.

Subject: Update and question
Hello Friends,
Another update on the progress of the Russian Literature idea.... I have
written back to Odin Publishing and received a response! This is what the
letter from the owner said:
"The idea to publish Russian authors and poets is very exciting. I
would like to contribute what I can to getting their work to the American
public. However, it is neccessary for me to explain the limited nature of
CWP [Common Wealth Poetry] and Odin Publishing. The company is very small
and is presently dedicated to being a forum for poets and writers who merely
wish to expose their work to the public. At the current time, we are not
publishing books or periodicals. This is a seedling organization and it is
my hope to allow it to grow on its own. Considering this, I want to make a
proposal. Please respond as you see fit.
"With publishing foreign authors, we may be entering copyright
infringements neither of us could imagine. If these authors and poets are
young, unpublished people who would be interested in any exposure their work
could get, then I can provide CWP as a vehicle for that idea. I presume you
know Russian or your friends know English. Either way, is it possible to
mail me some of their work?
"In time, I want to publish very short stories in the brochure form
[CWP]. You mention both stories and poems in your letter. Would you please
send some of each? Also, as you communicate with them [the writers], please
explain this is a free forum with no means of profit. CWP is currently only
working to provide a vehicle. If there are problems, please let me know. If
not, see if you can get letters from them verifying their compliance with
this."
*Note: Common Wealth Poetry is a pamphlet that is published every few weeks
or so. It consists of several poems sent in by local, little-known authors,
and is distributed to local stores, as Odin Publishing is a local company,
not national. The pamphlet is free to the public.
What this means is I need people from the FSU who are very little-known,
mainly those who write as a hobby, not as a job, or those who are just
experimenting with writing, who want to get their work out to the American
public. Also, as I said before, they must not seek profits from this, just
recognition.
I know the owner wrote that he wants "young" authors and poets, but it
doesn't matter what the age is, just as long as you are not seeking profits.
But, I do need writers to make this happen! So far, one person has written
interested in being published! So, PLEASE, if you are a person from the FSU
who writes and wants to be recognized for your work, but not seeking profit,
WRITE TO ME! You may write in either Russian or English. You don't have to
send work immediately, just let me know if you are interested! Write to:
wearboots@aol.com.
Also, I am sure some of you are aware of the organization Habitat for
Humanity. I have worked with this organization building and maintaining
houses before, and I was wondering if anyone out there knows of any similar
organizations in Russia. Thanks, and I will keep you posted.
Emily Dinnen
wearboots@aol.com
PS-Remember, Odin Publishing is not the only option. It is possible to find
another company to meet the needs of writers.
