Hi!

I'm a Canadian graduate student (studying international development
assistance and civil society) and am going to St.Petersburg for 10
months starting at the beginning of October. I'm looking for a roommate(s)
to rent an apartment with or a family to stay with at the
beginning. Please email if you're in the same situation or know of

Subject: Russian Lit.

Hello friends,

This is mainly directed towards our Russian friends. I have an idea,
though it cannot go into progress yet, but let me describe it anyway. I
would like to get together some works of stories, poems, etc. written by
Russians and publish them somewhere. The stories can be written by anyone
Russian, and can be about anything they want. The aim is to get little-known
writers to be heard, and to get Americans to see some Russian work. Even if
you don't consider yourself a writer, give it a try and see what you come up
with. Don't send any literature yet, just think about it, maybe start coming
up with ideas if you are interested in contributing.

Now, my problems are I don't know where or how to get these things
published. If anyone out there knows a way to help me with this, please let
me know. My friend and I are discussing the possibilty of trying to get the
"Russian Life" magazine to publish this literature, and I also know of a
local publishing co. which I have yet to write to. But, any help from
anybody out there would be greatly appriciated, thank you.

Once I get a publishing co. who is willing to undertake this, I will
send more specifics and details on writing requirements and so on. Will keep
you posted. Thank you.

Re: posting from Pascal Sanchez in Digest 10 August,1996=

Salut Pascal!

The name of the photographer in question is Yevgeniy A. Khaldei, who was a
TASS and Pravda front-line photographer throughout the war period.

Sorry, I'm unable to help you any further, perhaps someone else will be able
to advise if he is still alive and his whereabouts.

Kind regards,
William Kerr

Subject: Internet forums about Belarus

Two Internet forums are available to discuss all things related to
Belarus (AND both are hosted at this Friends & Partners site; Thanks
Greg and Natasha!):

1) A new usenet newsgroup, soc.culture.belarus (moderated) was created
on June 24, 1996. The purpose of the newsgroup is to discuss all things
about Belarus, its culture, people, history, etc., while following
netiquette.

The charter is available at: http://solar.rtd.utk.edu/~scb/charter.txt

To send submissions to the moderators, either post to
soc.culture.belarus or send e-mail to scb@solar.rtd.utk.edu (the latter
is preferred since it is more reliable).

To contact the moderators, send e-mail to scb-request@solar.rtd.utk.edu

2) The Belarus discussion (e-mail) list was created in January, 1996.
The welcome file/charter for this discussion list is also available at

To join this list, send e-mail to listproc@solar.rtd.utk.edu

Subject: Thesis: X-cultural communication of American and Russian biz.

I am writing a MA thesis on Cross-cultural Interactions of US and Russian
businesses.

Would appreciate any insights and help. Will e-mail full thesis abstract,
concepts and questions I am working on upon request. Please, e-mail to
(IggyDybal@aol.com).

The purpose of this thesis is to review the current scholarly work and
business publications and also incorporate hands-on experience of US business
executives on cross-cultural aspect of business interactions of American and
Russian businesses from the stand point of American business executives.

It is expected that the research of literature on the subject alongside
interviews with American businesses in involved into Russian market will
yield information relevant to American businesses in understanding
motivation, decision making process of the Russian counterparts, business
ethical values, negotiation patterns, ways of thinking, sense of time, space,
superiority, rank, age, linguistic, and cultural aspects of doing business in
Russia.

This research is mostly directed to practical applications of cross-cultural
approach of American businesses in the Russian market. It is the hope of the
author that it will further advance the field of cross-cultural communication
and may serve as a reference guide to American businesses in Russia.

Due to the limitations of the study only Russian (not Belarusian, Ukrainian,
etc.) related issues of X-cultural communication will be discussed in the
research.

Thanks.
