I don't know if you are the person to ask. I can read and
write in Russian, having studied it in college. I have friends
in Russia that I can reach via E-mail, but I only know how to
send it in English. I have obtained cyrillic fonts and can
read your Internet site both in English and Russian using my
Netscape browser with the correct fonts installed in the
Options section. Please let me know what I need to do to
compose E-mail in Cyrillic. I can use Microsoft Works for
Windows with cyrillic fonts, but don't know if I should attach
a file or try to compose the letter directly. I also don't know
what kind of word processing program my friends have. I have a
copy of Windows 95 Russian version that someone gave me, but I
have now loaded it as I heard that there were many bugs. If
you can answer my question, or steer me to someone who can,
please let me know. I also can get Russian newsgroups from the
relcom server to read in Russian with my browser as well.

Thank you,

Do you know of any project that might benifit by utilizing my expertise in

Another possibility might be where my fiancee' might be able to work in

Greetings,

The other day, I posted a question to your list concerning my interest
in opening an office concerning my Russian adoption facilitation service
business here in the US in a "Russian friendly city", and I am amazed at
the quantity of responses I got. I didn't expect such a reponse!

I got to thinking about it, and wonder if you would be willing to
somehow put a link on your site to that of the Internet International
Photolisting Service at:

http://www.adoption.com

Lots of Russian kids photos and profiles are listed on this site. They
are all available for international adoption. Many of the photos of our
kids, at Americans for International Aid and Adoption (AIAA) are on this
site, at least 75+ photos, and I'd like them to gain wider exposure.

So far, we've gotten about 10 kids adopted via this great site, listed
above.

Please let me know if you'd be willing to link to it. I typed in your
search engine the word adoption, but nothing came up. Perhaps you
should think of it as a new category. 3000+ families a year are
adopting from Russia.

Thanks.
Your site at Friends and Partners is great.

Best wishes,
Lisa Smith

Subject: Modern Russian poetry page extended

I recently added lots of new stuff to my homepage
http://solar.rtd.utk.edu/~alexey/home.htm
which is devoted to the modern Russian literature.
Now you can find there almost every modern poet from one of three biggest
Russian cities. Though the collection wants a system yet, I flatter
myself that already it is the best one compiled by a native speaker in the
Internet. If you can show me a better selection beyond Friends & Partners,
you are welcome to contact me; also contact me if you need any poetry not
yet in my collection, I will add that.

Subject: gay film festival in Tomsk

Dear Friends,

An unprecedented film festival will take place in Tomsk,
Russia--the first ever gay, lesbian, sexual minority film festival in
Siberia. Dubbed by Tomsk activists "The Pink Flamingo Film Festival," it
will be held from Sept. 6th through 15th at the October Theater. The
festival has the endorsement of city officials and is taking place in
conjunction with other community activities, including AIDS education
seminars.

Until recently activism by sexual minorities in Russia has been
limited to major cities like Moscow and St. Petersburg. Living in extreme
isolation not only from the rest of the world but within their own
country, these Siberian activists are to be commended for their courage
and initiative in producing this important event. Astarta, the officially
registered gay and lesbian organization in Tomsk, is joined by activists
from San Francisco and other cities to make this event possible.

A tentative list of films to be programmed are: Changing Our
Minds: the Evelyn Hooker Story, The Celluloid Closet, The Incredible True
Adventures of Two Girls in Love, Deaf Heaven, I Am My Own Woman, Marble
Ass, Paris Is Burning.

International support for this event is crucial. Few U.S. funders
are willing to support projects in Siberia. Although we have received
some funding, we are seeking emergency contributions of any amount. With
only weeks to go, please send us your contribution to gay pride in
Siberia today.

* $350 will rent a film
* $100 will rent the October Theater for one screening
* $50 will provide translation for one film
* $20 will pay for 5 faxes between Tomsk and San Francisco

We and the Siberians deeply appreciate your interest and financial
contributions.
Please send to : Pink Flamingo Film Festival

Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by U.S. law and should
be made payable to "Frameline" and identified for The Pink Flamingo Film
Festival.

Subject: our next truck convoy to Belarus

Dear Belarusian-Listmembers,

please allow me to give you a short information
about our plannings regarding our next truck-
convoi to Gomel and other cities in Belarus.

Start: 10/25/1996 in Munich
Back : 11/03/1996

The way will be around 5000 km and will be:

- Munich, Nuernberg, Berlin, Frankfurt/Oder with border crossing to Poland.
about 1000 km. 4 hours sleep.

- further to Warsaw to the last gas-station in Biala Podlaska, 30 km to
the Belarus border. Getting Diesel for the total tour for all trucks.
border crossing to Brest. this day 600 km. 4 hours sleep

- further via Schitkovitschi to Gomel, about 400 km.

total time from start about 70 hours.

In Gomel customs procedure and clearance. 2 days later we will start to
Smorgon (about 600 km), the city, where we have our partnership. The
tour will go via Bobrujsk and Minsk, where we will meet some friends.

Our helping projects are in the city of Smorgon, northwest of Minsk.

We have four projects:

- bringing medicine and medical equipment to a children doctor in Smorgon

- bringing parcels with clean food to Chernobyl-families and to old persons
  and families with many children

- bringing medicine, food, sweets and clothes to an internat in Smorgon
with about 200 children between 3 and 16.

- having a kind of sponsorship for 5 children who has problems with the
thyroid because of the radioactiv fallout from Chernobyl. For the
amount of DM 100.--/child they will have medical analysis and medicine
  for the next 5 years.

The only way to be shure, that all our helping goods will really arrive
at our partners and to the needy and poor children and families is, to
bring it there by ourselvers. That is the main reason why we make this
convoi.

Moreover, we have found friends there, and we are looking forward to
meet them.

All the medicaments have to be bought and are very expensive.

IF YOU REALLY WANT TO HELP YOUR COUNTRY (NOT ONLY WITH WORDS BUT WITH
MEDICAMENTS) THIS IS A GOOD CHANCE TO DO. MAKE YOUR CONTRIBUTION AND
I WILL PERSONALLY GARANTEE, THAT YOUR MONEY WILL BE SPEND EXCLUSIVE
FOR MEDICAMENTS FOR THE CHILDREN OF CHERNOBYL AND NOT ONLY ONE DOLLAR WILL
BE SPEND FOR ADMINISTRATION.

If you have any question, please do not hesitate to contact me via email.

best regards
