Subject: Geneology

grandparents were born in Russia. Some had fled through Shanghi somewhere
around 1920. Most information of family has been passed down by the older
generation. With only my Grandmother left living, at the age of 92, the
stories of the old country fade to only a few. What I would like to know
is if there are archives with information dating back that far. My last
known relative, My great grandfather (Ivan vasilich Maioroff), was left in
Shanghi. According to my grandmother he had been a major factor for the
immigration of many people.

Any help that you could forward would greatly be appreciated.

Subject: Ukraine?

Hello,

I am a Ph.D. student at harvard and I was wondering whether you would post
a note inquiring about accomodations in Ukraine. I will be travelling to
Ukraine at the end of March and I need a place to stay in Kyiv for the
month of April and Kharkiv for the month of May. I am a graduate student
and have limited resources, so I am looking to let a room from someone.
All I really need is a place to sleep. I will spend most days at the
archives.

If anyone out there is interested, just email me at:
(mrbaker@fas.harvard.edu).

I would really appreciate it if f and p would post this.
Yours sincerely,

Mark Baker

Subject: Russian Automotive Aftermarket

Dear Friends & Partners:

I am writing on behalf of our client, the Downing Group (DG), to
facilitate upcoming meetings with potential distributors of US automotive
aftermarket products.

First, DG is interested in distributing aftermarket products of
Russian companies in the US. DG has an established network of distribution
with warehousing facilities, product catalog and Internet marketing though a
subsidiary, ADNX. ADNX created the first online automotive equipment catalog
in the world (http://www.adnx.com) and can put Russian products on its new Web
mall.

Second, DG is now looking to establish relationships in Russia with
potential distributors of the many aftermarket products DG represents (over
100 US manufacturers alone). The company has long-standing ties after 50 years
of experience in this industry and can offer Internet and catalog marketing to
assist its distributors abroad. With the right partners, DG plans to
establish a warehousing system in Russia.

On April 7-20, 1996, Mr. Bradley Downing, CEO of DG, will travel
through Russia to meet with potential distributors of automotive aftermarket
products. Mr. Downing will be available in Moscow April 8-10; in Vladivostok
April 12-15; and in Nizhny Novgorod April 17-18. DG will be one of the
participatants in a trade mission sponsored by the law firm of Hahn Loeser &
Parks (info: http://dcez3.dcez.com/hlp)

If you know any Russian companies that Mr. Downing should meet or
w\ould like to learn more about DG, please contact me by phone (216/621-0150),
fax (216/621-0150) or Email (sanor@hahnloeser.com).

Thank you for your time and help. I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Mark D. Sanor

           ASSOCIATION FOR INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION
        INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL FOR DISTANCE EDUCATION

invite perspective presenters to submit proposals for the

Second International Conference on Distance Education in
                      Russia (ICDED'96)

"Open and Distance Learning as a Development Strategy"

                       July 2-5, 1996
                       Moscow, RUSSIA

                    FINAL CALL FOR PAPERS

SCOPE OF THE CONFERENCE

Open and Distance Learning is the most rapidly
developing sector of educational and training services
provided by educational institutions internationally. It
plays a vital role in strategic developments within the
education and training sectors today, as well as in the
corporate world. Open and distance learning applies the
latest achievements in information technologies and combines
it with new and learner centered pedagogical models of
studying. Open and distance learning is moving into the
center of the education and training sectors globally, and
plays an increasingly important role in all knowledge
dissemination.

The main theme of the Second International Conference on
Distance Education in Russia is the role of open and distance
learning in the modern world and strategies for its further
development.

The Russian Federation State Committee for Higher
Education is developing a National Program for the Support of
Distance Education in Russia. The guidelines and status of
the National Program funded by the Russian Government will be
presented at the Conference.

The previous ICDED'94 conference demonstrated great
interest in establishing international connections and
partnerships with Russian educational institutions. The
ICDED'96 is being organized to forester cooperation among
educational institutions and to encourage integration of the
Russian educational system into the world's community.

The ICDED'96 will focus not only on applications of
modern information technologies in education and on the
latest achievements in creating better educational
environments, but also on the pedagogical aspects of the new
learning environments, as well as on the globalization
process in education and training. The Conference will become
a site where educators from all over the world can meet,
discuss current issues and exchange professional experiences.

INTERNATIONAL TRADE-FAIR OF THE SECOND UNESCO CONGRESS ON
EDUCATION AND INFORMATICS (EDIT'96) 1-5 JULY 1996

The EDIT'96 will be running at the same time and
location of the ICDED'96.

The ICDED'96 attenders receive unique opportunity to
participate on both events. The most important EDIT'96
presentations will be held at the ICDED'96 plenary sessions.

Information on the Trade-Fair is available at:

           http://aie.riis.ru/english/edit96.html

or at the ICDED'96 Conference Secretariat.

CONFERENCE STRUCTURE

The ICDED-96 Conference will be making a stronger
emphasis on the discussions during sessions. For that purpose
the Conference schedule will be based on workshops. Highly
skilled and respected speakers are invited to chair
discussions during sessions. Extensive space will be
available for posters.
