Looking to correspond with someone from Russia to learn about what life
there is like. My ancestors are of Russian and Polish descent. (My last
name before marriage was Tofil.) I am curious about customs, foods and
life there in general. My grandfather came to America (alone) when he was
14 years old. He died during the 1970's and was about 85 years old. My
father was the youngest of his 13 children. I was in my teens when my
grandfather died and remember hearing him speak in Russian and Polish.
Although I did not understand, I was fascinated to listen to him. I am
not necessarily looking for relatives, just someone to chat with and
maybe learn something about my heritage. I am writing from Fredonia, New
York in the United States.

I am trying to locate US publishers operating in Moscow. I can also use a
list of US/(joint-ventures) businesses maintaining their offices in
Moscow. The reason for my interest has to do with nothing but employment
pursuits, should you need to know in order to lease information requested.
I appreciate your time.
Truly,
Vladislav Portnov.

NIS-American Penfriend Exchange
Thousands of children, teens, and adults from the former Soviet Union
countries are seeking postal mail (not email) penpals in the United
States. The organization "SAPE" (formerly called "The Soviet-American
Penfriend Exchange") has been matching Americans with penpals in the
former USSR since 1989. In the past year, more than 100,000 letters have
arrived from the former USSR and they desperately need help to find
penpals in the USA for these people. Mailings done to US schools have
resulted in penpals for less than 10% of these people. Individuals or
groups (aged 10 and up) who would like to participate should send a
self-addressed stamped envelope to SAPE at:
SAPE
P.O. Box 251689
Glendale, CA 91225
U.S.A.
Please feel free to pass this on to any other individuals, families,
classes, or youth groups you think may be interested in participating!!

Subject: Mailer Services
This is a really great project; the best that I have seen. I have a
question for you. I have used re-mailer services (I send a letter via
e-mail to a service in Kiev or Moscow, for example, and the service sends
the letter by postal mail to its destination). Are there any services like
this in Perm, Kislovodsk, Nizhny Novgorod, or any other city for that
matter?
Thanks a lot,

Subject: U.S. Business Professor Seeks Contacts/Hosts in Moscow
My colleague at Minot State University has asked me to post the
attached announcement to the list. Please feel free to contact
Dr. Ahmed at the address provided in the announcement.

U.S. Business Professor Seeks Contacts/Hosts in Moscow
*****************************************************************
Greetings to the list. I intend to visit Moscow from May 12
through May 30, 1996 to:
a. offer some lectures on marketing and international business at
educational institutions in and around Moscow,
b. establish some personal networks with professors,
c. explore the possibility of establishing some faculty/student
exchange program with institutions,
d. perform some research on the privatization of Russian Intour-
ist establishments, and
e. do some sightseeing in and around Moscow
I am looking for an educational institution which can accept my
offer of free lectures in business administration in exchange for
free hospitality (accommodation, meals, local transportation and
sightseeing). Alternatively, some professor(s), could also offer
me the hospitality in their homes, help me in conducting my
research and show me Moscow in exchange for friendship and col-
laboration on projects. I am willing to pay professors a reason-
able amount as well. I don't wish to stay in hotels because of
high cost. It is my personal visit and I will be spending my own
money.
For my research project, I would like to obtain the following
information about the privatization of Intourist establishments:
a. Privatization strategies
b. Feasibility studies on privatization carried out by private
and public agencies
c. Challenges and solutions tried about privatization
d. Accomplishments of privatization
e. Privatization plans, policies and programs.
I will need a letter of sponsorship to get my visa as well.
I will be grateful if somebody from the Moscow area contacts me
as soon as possible, to help me finalize my itinerary.

Subject: Unique Business Opportunity in Russia
Unique Business Opportunity in Russia
On May 22 - June 11, 1996, within the framework of celebrating 300-year
anniversary of Russian Navy under aegis of Government of Russian
Federation, a mobile exhibition/fair around NORTHWEST region of Russia
will be held. Route of the on-wheel fair will cross the cities of Moscow
- Tver- Novgorod - St.-Petersburg - Vyborg - Pskov - Moscow. In each city
and township exhibition will be displayed and fair organized in
cooperation with local authorities and participation of mass-media.
The NORTHWEST region bordering with Baltic countries and Scandinavia, is
the largest industrial region with advanced infrastructure enjoying
stability and economic growth. Foreign companies are still a rear bird on
this huge market.
Besides propagation of history of Russian Navy, this event is aimed to
give help to domestic and foreign manufacturers in search of potential
partners and buyers.
Though majority of the exponents will consist of the leading domestic and
some foreign auto manufacturers, we will be glad to welcome all the
companies (with all kinds of industrial and consumer goods) eager to
penetrate and familiarize with one of the most perspective markets of
Russia.
Participation fee is minimal. All participants of the mobile exhibition
will be provided with places in comfortable buses and accommodation in
hotels on the route and will enjoy an extensive cultural program.
Do not hesitate to contact us if the idea looks attractively to you.
Since the number of representatives of the companies-participants of the
auto convoy is limited, the Organizational Committee offer other forms of
participation, which will allow you to achieve positive results without
leaving your office and at minimum expenses.
For example, you can submit to the Committee the prospects, portfolio
with your offers, exhibition stands or instructions on their
manufacturing on site and the way of demonstration.
Upon conclusion of the exhibition we will provide you with video-taped
report and packet of offers and contact points of the Russian companies,
which will show interest in your products or service.
In our opinion, the most convenient way to deliver your materials is to
do that via your branch office or your country trade mission in Russia.
We shall also welcome any other variants of your participation.
To the interested companies we shall submit the application form and
draft of agreement on conditions of participation and obligations of the
parties.
Deadline of application is May 1, 1996.
A prompt reply will be appreciated by e-mail bpk0@glasnet.ru,

students positions within host companies at middle and upper
managerial levels in such areas as:
* Financial Control * Information Systems

the contribution they would make in their work assignments.
Applicants must also address the issue of cross-cultural situa-

before entering a graduate business school program
* academic achievement in coursework
