Subject: Looking for a Lost Friend
I would appreciate any help someone could provide in re-establishing contact
with a "lost" friend. His name and address are:
Mike J. Tsarev
P.O. Box 124
Troitsk 457100
Russia
Please note: this is the "Troitsk" which is in western Siberia approximately
150 km south of Chelyabinsk and 200 km northeast of Magnitogorsk. During
the past nine months I have sent him a number of letters with no response.
We used to correspond regularly. Mike is (or at least was) active as a
radio amateur with call UA9AO. Due to the poor propagation conditions
during the past year, it has not been possible to determine if he is still
on the air. Mike is approximately 40 years old. He has a wife Tanya, a
daughter Olga, and a son Yuri. I very much want to get in touch with him.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Subject: Locating my relatives in Belarus
Please help locate any relatives that are survivers of Adolph
Jacukowicz or Jozefa Karpowicz ,Adolph from Budslaw,Belarus
Jozefa from Dolhinow,Belarus. Both emigrated from the former
Belarus,USSR about 1913. Any suggestions,hints,advice or
help where to start searching would be appreciated.
Futile attempts previously contacting numerous universities
in Belarus. The catholic clergy were the same results.
I plan to visit Belarus if some relatives can be located.
Thanks

I am seeking anyone who is going to St Petersburg, who can deliver some
letters to my colleagues there.
I am attempting to assist several people in museum conservation work by
access to funding/information. (I am also attempting to identify funding
that will assist in underwriting my return in June 1995.)

Subject: multimedia in Russia
Dear Friends,
I have been asked to assemble a short report on the status of multimedia
computing in Russia. I am looking for any studies with statistics and
contact points within the multimedia industry.
Assitance offered and/or sources to refer to in regard to these questions
would be greatly appreciated!
Specificly:
1. What platforms are in common use? Have 386/486/Pentium PCs made any
inroads in the Russian market? How are MacIntosh sales there?
2. What is the software/multimedia-title distibution infrastructure
like? Are there distributers in place? Retail shops?
3. What is status of the intellectual property laws? Has the government
taken a stand against software piracy?
4. Who are the leading companies in multimedia sales? What are the
popular titles?
5. What are the widely read computer publications in Russia? Circulation?
Where are these magazines published and how should they be contacted?
6. What are the import tariffs, if any, on software?
7. What is happening with the telecom infrastructure there? Who is
deploying new wires and switches and where is the growth going?
8. Who are the multimedia publishers in Russia, what products have they
released and how much have they sold (in units and money)?
9. Any "case study" successful companies?
Thanks for your input. The destination is a consortium local to San
Francisco, "Multimedia Developers Group" and the overview of the global
multimedia market.

Sir,
for your Information, a Nato Press Release about the construction of
Network equipment in Russia.
Best Regards
Ludger Wiedemeier
E-mail.: 10011537@wsuvm1.csc.wsu.edu
PRESS RELEASE (94)88 23 September 1994
NATO ADVANCED NETWORKING WORKSHOP IN MOSCOW,
29 SEPTEMBER TO 1 OCTOBER 1994
"Establishing a Co-operative Framework for Networking in
Russia and Other NATO Partners" is the theme of the NATO
Advanced Networking Workshop, which will take place from
29 September to 1 October 1994, at the Golytsino Meeting
Centre, near Moscow. Convened under the Minister of
Science and Technology, Boris Saltykov, the Workshop will
bring together from NATO and Co-operation Partner (CP)
countries key players in the computer networking field.
The goal of the workshop is the formulation of a strategy
for advancing research and education networking in Russia
and neighbouring Co-operation Partner states.
About 75 delegates will review the present situation and
discuss future co-operation in the field as well as an
organizational framework for developing future computer
networks.
The lack of affordable high capacity telecommunication
infrastructures and the low availability of
high-performance computers and telecommunications
equipment have, in the past, limited contacts between
Co-operation Partner scientists and their colleagues in
the West.
"NATO has always encouraged collaborative research by
providing scientists with means to meet and communicate
together", said Dr. Jean-Marie Cadiou, Assistant
Secretary General for Scientific and Environmental
Affairs. "I am pleased that NATO can act as a catalyst
in this huge task of networking East and West together
and so contribute to the enhancement of the communication
infrastructure available to scientists".
This workshop demonstrates NATO's commitment to promoting
local and international collaboration through the setting
up of links and networking capabilities. It is the
continuation of the successful workshop that NATO held
last year in Budapest and which led to several
co-operative projects as well as to the creation of
CEENet, which was specifically established for
coordinating network integration in Central and Eastern
Europe.
