Subject: Packages, letters, money to Russia

One way to send packages to Russia safely is through the Congress of Russian-
Americans (CRA), whose address and telephone is given below:

        CRA (Congress of Russian-Americans)
East Coast office West coast office
P. O. Box 818 Alla Zaharoff
Nyack, NY 10960 #1 Traxler Rd,
Mary Wisekal San Anselmo, CA 94960
(914) 358-2723;(914) 353-5453(Fax); (415)456-7926

Cost to send packages is $25 (call to obtain the exact size and contents
restrictions). Packages are containerized and sent by ship on a schedule
dictated pretty much by demand to Moscow where they can be picked up. Each
package is checked against litings in both US and Moscow. I have use CRA
successfully to date.

CRA also publishes a quarterly (I think) newsletter available for $8 per year.

I have sent letters with Project Harmony, a grass-roots organization that
promotes exchanges with Russia:

        Project Harmony
        6 Irasville Common
        Waitsfield, VT 05673
        (802) 496-4545; (802) 496-4548 (Fax)

Another possibility is to work through Russian orthodox Churches in the U.S.

For sending money, the surest way is to find someone trustworthy who is going
to Russia to take it for you.

Subject: FTPing cyrillic texts

Hi,

Is there somewhere somebody patient enough to send me DETAILED,
STEP-BY-STEP (for DUMMIES) instruction on how to download cyrillic texts,
and what to do so I can see Cyrillic text on a screen. I FTPed and
unzipped some of them, but I have no idea if I did it right, and what do I
have to do to be able to read (ideally - to print) them. I need
instructions for PC with Windows or DOS (I would really appreciate both).
I tried to seek help from some computer wizards, but they could not
figure it out, got tired and left me. I am not a computer wizard, and I know a
little more than nothing in that area. What fonts do I need to read
Strugatski and Sasha Chyorny books that are on your Friends WWW server? How
do I install them? Do I need a Cyrillic driver for that, and how do I
install it? I do not want to be repetitive, but I really do not know much,
and I want to read these books!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Help!!!!!!!!

Desperately,

Vera Gubnitskaia

Subject: "Family to Family"

I am sorry to post this to the entire list, but when I tried to
communicate directly, my mail was returned to me.

Dear Carole Musgrave,

RE: Msg in Friends & Partners Digest for Wednesday, April 6, 1994

Could you tell me more about the "Family to Family" organization?
I would like to participate if possible.

I have contacted one fellow in St. Petersburg in the past, but have
not heard back from him since my last message back in February.

I would appreciate any information that you can provide.

Thanks,
Kyle

Huy!
I am conducting research concerning economic reforms in the FS Union
