Manufacturer's Designation: LKS. Class: Manned. Type: Spaceplane. Nation: Russia. Total Length: 19.0 m. Maximum Diameter: 11.0 m. Total Mass: 20,000 kg.

Chelomei OKB competitor to Buran. Designed 1977. Descendent of Myasischev / Chelomei faceted manned spaceplanes of 1958 - 1964. Shuttle-like nose, negative anhedral wings, twin horizontal stablizers. To be launched atop Proton booster. Mockup built in one month and displayed to military leadership in attempt to get Buran program cancelled. A group of unidentified saboteurs (possibly KGB) broke into the premises of NPO Mashinostroyeniye in early March 1991 and destroyed the mock-up. References: 81 , 83 .
