I have recently joined the Ferghana Valley discussion list and would
like to introduce myself. My name is Joel Pedersen and I am currently a
doctoral candidate in the Environmental Science and Engineering Program
at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). I am conducting my
dissertation research at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on the
transport and fate of current use pesticides and adjuvants in an
intensively cultivated watershed. Prior research has included studies at
the science-policy interface involving pollutant transport and fate,
aquatic chemistry and ecotoxicology.
Prior to beginning doctoral studies at UCLA, I taught water quality
management and risk assessment at a university in Kazakstan. Through
this experience, I became proficient in Kazak and improved my Russian
language skills. I am interested in scientific and policy issues that
relate to water quality and environmental restoration in Central Asia.
I look forward to participating in the list serve in the months to come.
