Dear List members,
A group of Freedom Support Act FLEX (High School) alumni students who
are now college students in Fergana have received a USIS Democracy Grant
to open a youth community and leadership center at their university. It
hopes to become a new CENTER of community and social activity for high
school and college students in and around Fergana - essentially, the new
and cool thing to do.
The center will have a library, e-mail and computer access, and will
work with local NGOs to sponsor youth involvement in community action.
They will also do English debates, drama, movies, and discussion
classes.
It is a very exciting project and the center is planning to open its
doors in late February.
Of course, the grant does not cover everything and is a onetime grant.
Any help or advice from listmembers would be greatly appreciated!!
Currently we are taking donations of English language materials for the
library from local and international sources. Any help in this area
would be excellent.
Also, the center hopes to grow into a major regional NGO in years to
come. What suggestions might you have for ongoing funding?
Thanks for your interest.
Sincerely,
Erik Blender
