Dear list members,
On Sept. 20th, the governor of Osh Oblast Temirbek Akmataliev held a
briefing with local journalists on recent developments in Batken region.
He has officially announced that on the night of Sept. 18th and in the
morning of Sept. 19th 7 Kyrghyz soldiers ( Namazbekov, Melis Sadikovich,
Akabaev, Daminov, Rahmatullaev) were killed in a minor battle with
terrorists near the village of Syrt of Batken region. They were all drafted
by Maili Suu Military Comissariat a month ago.
On Sept. 19th, a group of Kyrghyz soldiers headed by the leutenant Golubev
were ambushed by guerrillas. As battle commenced, leutenant Golubev was
killed and several other soldiers were seriously wounded.
The guerrilla losses are not accurate because the terrorists don't leave
bodies of their killed fellows in the field.
But according to Mr. Akmataliev, as of Sept. 20th, Kyrghyz troops have
captured a 19 year old guerrila ( he is now in the Batken military
hospital)
and 18 year old who was supposedly a desertire leaving his group.
Mr. Akmataliev has informed journalists that among killed guerrilas was the
body of Abdulaziz ( Abduvali Yulsashev) who was the commader of the
guerrilas from the first day of intervention.
To the question whether there is a threat to members of international
organizations present in Osh oblast,
the governor stated that there is a potential threat in the location of
military actions, not in Osh.
He also informed of the preventative measurements targetted to avoid
bombings and explosions in different towns and villages of the oblast.
Another question he was asked was whether the current situation in Batken,
Chon-Alai rayons might affect upcoming elections to the parliament. He
stated that elections will take place regardless of the situation in the
conflicting area.
