Hi Everyone
I have enjoyed reading the postings to the list to date and wanted to
write with a question. I am currently finalizing my dissertation plasn (I
am a Ph.D. candidate in confilct resolution). I ahve received a fellowship
which I can use to spend a year or more in Kyrgyz part fo the Ferghana
Valley conducting research on the role of community organizations in
conflict prevention in the region. I am writing with several questions
that I would love ot hear any feedback on.
Frist I ahve been to the region several times, but not in the past year.
Do people see the evenst in southern Kyrgyzstan as a sign for things to
come, or hopefully is this a more isolated incident.
Second, I am aware of the research of Carnegie, Council on Foreign
Relations and sevearl Kyrgyz NGOs on the region (I ahve worked with teh
Institute of Regional Studies and Soros), does anyone have any
recommendations of organizations doing conflict resolution work (or
community development in the region, I am also aware of Counterpart, Mercy
Coprs, UNDP, etc..)
Finally, does anyone havea any particulary recommendations of useful
literature they have read on conflict prevention in teh Ferghan Valey
(aprt from what has been published by CPSS, Carnegie, etc.)?
I can provide a longer description of the research I am considering if
anyoen is interested.
Thanks
