This is to introduce myself, David Nalle, to list members. I have been an
independent scholar studying the history and current affairs of Central Asia
for 20 years. My c.v. includes a number of years living in Afghanistan, Iran
and the Soviet Union (as a cultural officer with USIA). Now, I am (a)
Washington editor of the bimonthly magazine Central Asia Monitor, and (b) a
lecturer on the area before continuing education and foreign affairs groups.
I have long had a particular interest in the Ferghana Valley and, in pursuit
of (a), am always on the lookout for authors living in the Valley who want to
write about aspects of contemporary life there, especially development
projects, NGO activity, political accommodation, cultural developments, the
environment, and progress toward civil society, for publication in the
Monitor.
