Dear All,
I am Emil Kalmatov, working for "Ata Jurt" NGO located in Osh. We support
rural communities in Kyrgyzstan. Since 1997 "Ata Jurt" has been implementing
several tree planting projects in South Kyrgyzstan with the goal to prevent
from natural disasters. "Ata Jurt" has its branches in raions
(administrative areas) which are dealing with income generation activities.
Since April 1998 "Ata Jurt" has been coordinating "Community Water
Management project in Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan: Strengthening role of
Women" initiated by International Secretariat for Water (based in Montreal,
Canada). The project covers 4 villages in Kyrgyzstan and 2 villages in
Fergana oblast of Uzbekistan. Partners of the project are NGOs in Osh "Mehr
Shavkat" from Aravan, "Maksat" from Bash-Bulak village, two raion branches
of "Ata Jurt" from Alai and Kara-Kulja. We are very much interested in the
issues of empowerment at local levels, but I would also like to receive
answers for the question put by Dr Yuri Badenkov: What mechanisms would
work? And his suggestion to open discussions aroung very specific topics is
very attractive, even I would suggest to be more specific and to formulate
the discussions more in detail in order not to look globalized. For example,
the topic related to water resource management could include several points
(at least irrigation and drinking water issues which are very much different
things in our reallity) etc... And I think the same can be with other issues
like trade, environment, Policies etc..
With kind regards,
Emil Kalmatov
