The Young Scientists (Ed. note: either "Scholars" or "Academics"
would probably be better terms) Association of Kazakh National
Technical University in Almaty, Kazakhstan, are seeking information
and assistance on the following topics:

- Short-term exchange programs (1-3 months) for Kazakhstani teachers
in the US and elsewhere, as well as longer programs (up to 1 year),
particularly in the fields of art, music, and education;

- Opportunities for Kazakhstani students (ages 17-20) to study
abroad;

- Potential sources of financial support for the Foundation's
educational and anti-poverty efforts, in particular, the equipping of
a woodworking shop and other facilities for the Foundation's new
program of vocational training for unemployed parents and children,
as well as humanitarian aid, especiallly clothing.

- Support for funding a new print run of the Foundation's book,
"Games as a Means of Environmental Instruction and Education".

The Kazakh National Technical University is the first Technical
higher school in the Republic of Kazakhstan. It is the largest
educational scientific and cultural complex in the Republic of
Kazakhstan with its great history of forming and developing.

Today KazNTU has:

--six institutes of full-time education in the chief higher
institution;

--branches in different regions of the Republic;

--Republican (national) centre of perfecting of the qualification of
teachers of higher technical educational colleges, retraining and
perfecting the qualification of the workers of engineering and
technical industry;

--96 chairs in the leading institute and its periphery subdivisions;

--II branches of chairs in enterprises and in scientific and research
organisations;

--educational - scientific - industrial complexes with the large
republican enterprises;

--2 technical colleges;

--scientific and research part with numerous scientific labs, full
filling investigations on important subjects;

KazNTU today has 1,127 teachers, among them 70 professors and
lecturers; 2 academics and 9 Corresponding members of the National
Academy of Sciences, 6 members of the main branches of Academy; 6
State laureates of Republic of Kazakhstan, 22 honoured members of
Higher Schools, Science and Engineering;

KazNTU today includes more than 13 thousand students training in
specialities on full time education, evening and correspondence forms
of education. KazNTU trained more than 55 thousand specialists. Our
University is proud of its graduates. Among them are members of the
government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, leaders of large
enterprises, scientists, bankers, employers--people who have already
achieved great success, and who were awarded governmental prizes and
honorary titles. Education, received at KazNTU is highly appreciated
not only in engineering environment, it has universal character.
