Russian Immersion Job Opening in Chicago

Work with the Russian Elderly as a VISTA volunteer.
This is a paid volunteer position where you will live
in a Russian-Speaking building and will be responsible
for the following duties:

> Become a community builder in Chicago!

> DSSA Management, Inc. manages 7 Senior
> Citizen/Disabled Adult buildings and one Family
> Housing building for Chicago Housing Authority. We
> are
> looking for creative,computer-literate individuals
> who are interested in community development. You
> will work with poor communities to develop Computer
> Learning Centers(CLC) relevant to their needs.

> Responsibilities:
> * Develop a model CLC program public housing
> buildings. This CLC will serve the building
> residents
> and the surrounding community. It will become a hub
> for a wide variety of educational and social
> activities. Your model will be exported to other
> Senior Housing buildings.
> * Diplomacy with a variety of stake-holders,
> including: Resident Leaders, Educators, Churches,
> Schools, Community Groups and Volunteers.
> * Hold monthly Steering Committee meetings,
> responding to the needs of sometimes warring
> factions.
> * Teach very basic computer classes: how to turn on
> the computer, how to use the mouse, how to log on to
> the internet, how to use word-processing, etc.
> * Work with other VISTA members to develop a
> teacher
> training manuel which includes curriculum for
> teaching
> each level student.
> * Recruit Volunteers from local Universities and
> High-Schools.
> * Publicize your acheivements. Develop a newsletter
> which is produced by members of your Computer
> Learning
> Center. Invite Reporters and Public Officials to
> tour
> your center while giving demonstrations of your
> acheivements.

> > Candidates Must:

> > * Have some volunteer experience.
> > * Devote 40 hours or more each week to this
> program.
> > * Be comfortable with public speaking and have an
