International Internship Opportunity

Mingechevir, Azerbaijan

6-month position, beginning February, 2001

ISAR-Azerbaijan is seeking a dynamic, self-starter for a paid internship in our NGO Resource Center in Mingechevir, Azerbaijan (about 4 hrs. by car from the capital city, Baku).

Responsibilities:

  a.. Work with two local staff to build up the services of the resource Center, including omputer courses for NGO Representatives, library services, regular meetings for local NGOs, and consultations about NGO management
  b.. Provide training and oversight to two local staff as needed
  c.. Serve as liason with Baku management team and program staff
  d.. Develop new programming for the center.
Qualifications:

  a.. University degree, preferably in international development, former Soviet regional studies, or a related field
  b.. Previous work experience in a development organization
  c.. Knowledge of NGOs
  d.. Good organizational and office skills
  e.. Native English speaker with Russian/Azeri/Turkish preferred
  f.. Creative, innovative
  g.. Interested in learning and being part of a growing, grassroots organization.
ISAR will cover roundtrip airfare, health insurance, in-country transportation, housing, Azeri language lessons, and a small living allowance.

ISAR-Azerbaijan is a US-based non-profit organization which works to promote Civil Society in the countries of the former Soviet Union. ISAR has been working in Azerbaijan since 1995 to develop local NGOs. Today, ISAR-Azerbaijan has about 30 local staff, working in the training program, grant program, information and outreach program, and regional program. The Mingechevir Regional Resource Center is ISAR's first center outside of Baku.
