We are interested to present you our Association. We hope to get
support in seeking contacts and finding partners in the USA.
The Association of Small Mining Enterprises of Georgia (ASMEGeo) is a
non-governmental, non-commercial organization. It counts more than 30
members including private enterprises working on the recovery and
processing of minerals, geological and planning organizations.
The ASMEGeo was established in August, 2000 with the support of the
Eurasia Foundation through the USAID funds.
The value of the annual output (manganese ore, barite, andesite,
diatomite, zeolites, bentonite, arsenic, facing stones - marble,
granite, basalts) produced by small mining enterprises in late 1980s
in Georgia was about USD 150-170 million. Serious problems faced
recently in the mining sphere are due to the grave economic
difficulties generic to all the Post-Soviet countries. Rehabilitation
and development of mining industry is one of the state priorities.
Mineral resources and a production basis required for this are
available in the country. Apart from this, there are about 300
mineral deposits not yet developed. Some of them require further
geological investigation.
The goal of the ASMEGeo is to bring efforts of various businesses
together to ensure successful adaptation of mining enterprises to the
market economy.
Short-term objective of ASMEGeo is to obtain investments for
reconstruction of mines and development of deposits, to facilitate
market expansion, to provide information to entrepreneurs and
establish mutually profitable partnerships with similar foreign
organization.
We would very much appreciate you could support us in establishing
contacts for following purposes:
- to obtain a grant to ensure the operation of the ASMEGeo at the
initial stage. the project for creating fruitful ground for the
rehabilitation and development of mining enterprises. The project
will be presented to you or the donor institution recommended by you.
- to develop a program of partnership between the USA and Georgian
mining companies with the aim of implementing mutually profitable
projects for reconstruction of mines and developing new deposits in
Georgia as well as comducting geological and planning and research
works.
- to promote market expansion for Georgian mining products.
Thank you in advance,
Edgar Mataradze
