REAP VOLUNTEERS

REAP has placed volunteers in over 50 villages at Lake Baikal.
Through REAP's rural development work, we have built relationships
with hundreds of persons. Our primary objective is to develop rural
stability, typically by providing assistance to schools. Many of our
volunteers work in villages, but we also share volunteers with
projects by other NGOs or institutions, particularly in Irkutsk.

Volunteers may be of high school, college age or older, typically
nonRussian speakers, who seek short experiences. The areas available
for volunteers include environmental education, social services,
government and legislatures, youth work, enterprise development,
English language teaching, help with tourism development and
secondary education development. In Irkutsk volunteers can work with
the Irkutsk State Botanical Garden, The Limneological Institute, the
Rebirth of Siberia movement, a research hospital, the environmental
community and youth organizations.

This year we have added volunteers to support the work of our new
Youth Activity Center project. The volunteers can assist in setting
up micro-enterprises, helping with youth activities, providing
information on associations/ programs that can be useful to Russian
youth. (Big Brother/Big Sister, PTA, self-esteem programs, sex
education, drug awareness programs, martial arts, paramedic or first
responder, environmental organizations, leadership training and team
building exercises, are examples.)

We urge you to concentrate on the areas where you think you can have
the most impact.

We would like to receive information about you, and then to try and
match you with the appropriate project. Check out the full details
on our volunteer program, Internships and People to People Tourism on
our website. www.reapintl.com

Look for details on the volunteer program under Baikal 2000/ Village
Volunteer Programs. The application form is also found in the Baikal
2000 section.
