Biointensive for Russia is planning two tours to St. Petersburg
and Moscow in 2001. The first is set for January 12-28, and is
limited to 6 participants chiefly interested in art and 6 in
Biointensive food-growing. The second will be held in December 2001
and will feature a 5-day bilingual workshop in Grow BiointensiveSM
Sustainable Mini-Farming and passive solar greenhouse design
presented by Steve Moore, a Pennsylvania commercial farmer who is
expert in the above topics.

The first week of the January tour will feature a week of art
events in St. Petersburg arranged by Bay Area artist and teacher
Stephanie Tsuchida, as well as meetings with gardeners who have
learned Biointensive from our books, from Albina Kochegina's lectures
and courses, and at BfR's 3-day workshop in the area in 1998. The
second week will include Moscow and Golden Ring art sightseeing
offerings as well as a 3-day workshop in Biointensive Sustainable
(BI) Mini-farming led by Sasha Avrorin from Novosibirsk (with English
interpreting) in Novo-Sin'kovo, north of Moscow. Participants will
be able to choose from the various art and BI offerings.

Stephanie will coordinate the art appreciation portion of the St.
Petersburg tour. We will visit the world-renowned Hermitage and
Russian Museums, led by Sergei Katin, a knowledgeable,
English-speaking art instructor. We'll visit an artist's private
studio for an afternoon of friendship-making around the samovar, and
an internationally respected children's art school, meeting students
and teachers and viewing the children's astonishing paintings. An
optional day trip will be offered to Repino, location of the charming
dacha studio of the 19th-century Russian painter, Ilya Repin.

Carol Vesecky, Albina Kochegina, and Sasha Avrorin will conduct
follow-up meetings with BI gardeners of all ages in St. Petersburg
and Pushkin in which tour participants are invited to participate.
Sasha and Albina will also present an introductory session on
Biointensive for those Russians and Americans new to the method.

For the second week in the Moscow area, you may spend two or more
days sightseeing with local Russian guides. Those wishing to learn
more about Biointensive mini-farming (BI) with Russian gardeners and
ag teachers will drive to the Educational Methodology Center (EMC), a
Ministry of Agriculture short-course college in Novo-Sin'kovo, north
of Moscow. There, Aleksandr Avrorin, director of Biointensive in
Siberia, will teach a 3-day workshop. Double-digging and other
demonstrations will be performed in a heated greenhouse, whatever the
weather is like outdoors.

Cost of all of this will be $1800 for one week and $2200 for two,
including"profit" that will help support future Biointensive
workshops in the FSU. Winter in Russia is especially beautiful, a
time when city and country alike are at their loveliest and
hospitality is at its best. This is a trip you won't want to miss!
But, if you know it's not for you, yet the cause is worthwhile, tell
your friends. And please get in touch immediately if there's a
chance you can join us! The art lover quota for the January tour is
filling up fast, but if you're receiving this message, you're
eligible for the BI quota even if your primary interest in this tour
is Russian art. If your answer is "not this time," then consider
joining us in December 2001, when Pennsylvania Grow Biointensive/
passive solar greenhouse teacher and farmer Steve Moore will be the
workshop presenter. For more information or to express interest, call
Carol or Stephanie ASAP 650 856-9751 or reply to this message. And
