PROGRAM ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT POSITION AVAILABLE

The Center supports non-profit environmental organizations in the
former Soviet Union (FSU) in the promotion of energy conservation and
renewable sources of energy. The center encourages women to assume
leadership by providing training and small grants programs for women
in NGOs.

Term of employment: Twenty-hours/ week beginning for at least one
year.

Location: Berkeley, California. Salary: $1,000/month

MUST HAVE LEGAL STATUS FOR LIVING AND WORKING IN US

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Program Administrative Assistant will
develop and maintain systems for the efficient functioning of a small
non-profit environmental agency, maintain financial records, manage
grants, help in developing grant proposals, and communicate by email
with environmental activists in many countries.

PRINCIPAL TASKS:

1. Organize and maintain office systems.
2. Prepare financial documents for the Earth Island Institute.
3. Make travel arrangements for US/NIS exchanges
4. Manage small grants program for non-profit organizations in
Kazakhstan, Ukraine and Russia.
5. Communicate with environmentalists in the CIS and the US
6. Coordinate proposal preparation for foundations and US government.
7. Troubleshoot on Mac and PC

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Excellent writing and verbal skills.
2. Experience with office systems, equipment, budgets and
spreadsheets.
3. Experience negotiating with airlines and travel agencies.
4. Experience with grantwriting and federal grants
5. Computer literacy on PC and Mac programs: Excel, Quicken,
Filemaker, Eudora, Outlook and Microsoft Word.
6. Attention to details especially financial data. Self-motivation
and independence.
7. Interest in FSU countries, environmental and energy issues
(desirable).
8. Competence in reading and writing the Russian language
(desirable).
