Dear CivilSoc Members,
I am a PhD candidate, writing a thesis in the sphere of international
human rights law, under the supervision of Professor Françoise
Hampson, at the University of Essex (United Kingdom). My research
focuses on sexual assaults in armed conflicts since 1939.
The main purpose is to examine whether and to which degree variables
like control of territory, presence of women in the armed forces,
training of the armed forces, length of the armed conflict...,
influence the scale as well as the types of sexual assaults
in armed conflicts. In this regard, I would be very grateful
if you could assist me in gathering the relevant materials (in
English, French, German, or Russian). I am particularly interested
in armed conflicts which involved participation of either one
of the following countries: Russia (USSR), France, the United
States of America, India, Indonesia, Mexico and South Africa.
Among other things, I am looking for:
- reports in a sphere related to my topic either produced by,
or available to your organisation (alternatively, please indicate
whether they are available on the Internet);
- relevant statistics that your organisation has access to;
- names and addresses of local NGOs that may have additional
information on the subject-matter;
- names and addresses of persons involved in gathering evidence
on the topic;
- national jurisprudence (criminal, civil, and military jurisdictions);
- government reports.
