Job Announcement: Partnership and Exchange Program Intern
ISAR (Initiative for Social Action and Renewal in Eurasia) is a non-profit organization which promotes citizen participation and the development of the non-governmental (NGO) sector in the Newly Independent States (NIS). ISARs offices, located throughout Eurasia and in Washington, DC, support grassroots citizen activists and NGOs in their efforts to create just and sustainable societies.
ISAR is seeking a Washington-based intern for three months to assist its Partnership and Exchange Program. ISARs Partnership and Exchange Program facilitates exchanges and cooperation among NGOs in the United States and the NIS. The intern will assist the Program Manager in running exchange programs which will include participants from Russia and Azerbaijan. The primary focus for the intern will be to help facilitate an exchange between grassroots women nuclear safety activists from communities located near nuclear production facilities in the U.S. and Russia.
Responsibilities Include:
Assisting the Program Manager with many aspects of planning for the exchanges;
Providing logistical support for program participants, including travel arrangements;
Interpreting for program participants during their travel to US exchange sites;
Ongoing correspondence with U.S. activists and ISAR field offices;
Interviewing program participants to evaluate the program.
Required Qualifications
Strong Russian language ability;
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills;
Experience with Macintosh computers and applications;
Basic knowledge of social and political issues in the NIS;
Desire to learn more about NGOs in the NIS.
Desired Qualifications
Previous work experience with non-profits in the U.S. and/or NIS;
Living experience in the NIS.
