Baltic Sea Regional Businesswomen's Mentoring Initiative
The U.S. Department of State and the Nordic Council of Ministers are
sponsoring a mentoring initiative in which businesswomen from the
U.S. and the Nordic countries will provide professional guidance to
less experienced businesswomen in Russia and the Baltic states
(Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia). This year-long program began June
18-20 at a kick-off meeting in Tallinn, Estonia. Of the 35 Russian
and Baltic "clients" who attended, 15 were not matched up with
mentors, and the project organizers are looking for U.S.
businesswomen who would be interested in becoming a mentor to one of
them.
Mentors commit to 10 hours a month in phone, written, or electronic
communication with their clients, providing advice on business
planning, marketing strategies, effective management, information
technology, and other areas of interest to the client. The clients
come from numerous business sectors, including accounting,
manufacturing, retail, tourism, disability services, and art.
Mentors who speak Russian, in particular, are needed, although many
of the clients also speak English and/or Latvian, Estonian, and
Lithuanian.
If you are interested in getting involved as a mentor or would like
more information, please contact Conrad Tribble, Coordinator of the
Northern Europe Initiative, at 202-647-5669 or TribbleC@state.gov.
