East European Studies (EES) of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars is soliciting applications for its Research Scholar Grants. These grants are awarded to American citizens (or permanent residents) in the early stages of their academic careers (generally before tenure but after Ph.D.) or to scholars whose careers have been interrupted or delayed. For non-academics, an equivalent degree of professional achievement is expected.

Research scholarships will be awarded for 2-4 months of research in Washington, DC. Office space at the Wilson Center and a research assistant will be provided whenever possible.

To apply for a Research Scholar Grant, the applicant must submit the following:

(1) a completed application form; (available for download on our website http://wwics.si.edu/ees/grants.htm)
(2) a concise description of his/her research project;
(3) a curriculum vitae;
(4) three letters of recommendation in support of the research to be conducted at the Wilson Center.

One round of competitive Research Scholar selection is held per year. The deadline for receipt of applications is November 1, 2000. Decisions on appointments will be made in January 2001.

Completed application forms should be mailed to the following address:
