Center for Civil Society International is pleased to offer to
CivilSoc subscribers a recent publication of the BEARR Trust in the
U.K. The "Glossary of Social Care Terms, English-Russian" is a
116-page booklet aimed at social services professionals, students of
social work, interpreters and other specialists working with partners
in English-speaking countries. The Glossary lists about 400 English
terms such as "bereavement counseling," "family mediation," "partial
hearing," "probation order," "speech therapist," and "transfer of
parental authority." It provides translations into Russian of these
terms and--of perhaps greater value--more than 50 pages of commentary
on certain terms (e.g. "intervention") which require more explanation
in order to be fully understood.
The Glossary was produced last year at the request of Perm Regional
Committee of Social Protection, in cooperation with the BEARR Trust
and Oxfordshire Perm Voluntary Action Link. It was funded by the
Webb Memorial Trust and British Know How Fund.
