Dear friends!

Baikal Institute for Environment & Natural Resources Use would like
to remind you of the summer projects in the lake Baikal area.

 * children's camp "Shida"
 * children's camp "Seagull", and
 * a study of the influence of tourist activity on the nature of the
   Olkhon Island.

1. Children's camp "Shida".

About 50-60 Russian children are expected to take part in this
program during the each of the seasons (which are as follows: June
6-27, June 27 - July 18, July 18 - August 8, August 8-29). You are
free to choose any of these seasons.

As for the acomodation we will be glad to offer you wooden houses on
the coast of the lake Baikal (three persons/room).

Payment for food & accomodation in Irkutsk & Shida is $100 for two
weeks. Travelling to and from Irkutsk and back is at the expense of
the volunteers.
 

2. Children's camp "Seagull"

The camp-site is situated in a suberb of Irkutsk (4 kms away from the
city, on the bank of the Ushakovka river.) Work will involve on
restoration of a children's camp and teaching children engaged in
ecology studies (age 12-14 years).

Other possible activities:
 * trip to Lake Baikal (70 kms away from Irkutsk),
 * visiting an open-air museum of wooden architecture (47 kms away
   from Irkutsk)
 * city-tour

Acommodation - in wooden houses (3-4 persons in a room)
It is necessary to have with you: a sleeping bag, clothes and
footwear for camping, jacket in a case of a rain.

Time of realization of the program - August, 1-31.

Payment - &100 for two weeks. Travelling to and from Irkutsk is at
the expense of the volunteers.

3. Social-ecological camp on the Olkhon Island.

Olkhon Island is the largest one on Lake Baikal (about a 5-6 hour
ferry ride).

The goal of the program is to study the influence of tourist activity
on the nature of the island and local population (sociological
polls).

It is necessary to have with you: a sleeping bag, clothes and
footwear for camping, a tent. Residing in tents.

Travelling to and from Irkutsk is at the expense of the
volunteers. Payment for participating in the program - $ 100 for 2
weeks.

We are glad to inform you that we can arrange visa support for you
within three days. It will be valid for three weeks. Visa support
payment - $10. If you want to stay in Russia longer we are able to
extend it.
